SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC), the owning and managing company of Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod, continues to advance its sustainability agenda as the property strengthens its circular economy initiatives through expanded partnerships and community-driven programs.
At a time when global fuel volatility continues to challenge local industries, Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod stands at the forefront of sustainable hospitality. What began in 2024 as a localized waste-to-energy initiative has since evolved into a compelling model of how public-private collaboration can deliver meaningful socio-economic impact.
At the heart of this effort is the hotel’s flagship Biodiesel Project, which converts used cooking oil (UCO) into high-grade fuel. In its latest milestone, the property, in collaboration with the Congressional Office of Representative Albee Benitez, donated 200 liters of biodiesel to residents of Brgy. Singcang.

This recent turnover brings the hotel’s total contribution to 2,600 liters of donated fuel since the project’s inception. Based on average production yields, this volume is estimated to support approximately 16 tons of collective catch for local fisherfolk that provides a vital energy source for livelihoods while helping communities navigate ongoing fuel challenges.
The initiative is supported by a technical partnership with Green Solutions, led by CEO Engr. Ian Fred Solas, who ensures that collected UCO is efficiently converted into clean-burning biodiesel rather than contributing to environmental waste. This process not only reduces pollution but also reinforces a closed-loop system within the hotel’s operations.
“Sustainability is no longer a choice but a necessity, especially as we navigate the complexities of the global fuel market,” shared Reljun Oloroso, Director of People & Culture and sustainability champion of Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod. “This project demonstrates that through strong partnerships with government and technical experts, we can transform waste into a valuable resource that benefits both communities and the environment.”
Reinforcing Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod’s broader commitment to responsible tourism, the Bacolod City Government has invited the hotel to showcase its circular economy programs at this year’s Panaad sa Negros Festival. The initiatives are currently featured at the Bacolod LGU Pavilion, highlighting eco-friendly practices, repurposed materials, and innovative waste management solutions.
Park Inn by Radisson Circular Economy corner at Panaad sang Negros Festival in collaboration with Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO).
Festival visitors can explore the hotel’s sustainability ecosystem, which includes:
The Biodiesel Project: A model for waste-to-energy conversion and cross-sector collaboration
Tela Tales: A three-year upcycling initiative that transforms retired hotel linens into new products, providing livelihood opportunities for 15 volunteers in Brgy. Felisa
Bokashi Method: A four-year program that converts organic waste into compost in partnership with the Negros Economic Development Foundation (NEDF). Through a closed-loop system, the hotel supports 55 farmers and has processed over 100,000 kilos of food waste into fertilizer
As the only hotel in Negros currently holding the Hotel Sustainability Basics certification, Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod exemplifies SMHCC’s vision of integrating sustainability into core operations.
“At SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation, we see sustainability as a shared responsibility that extends beyond our properties and into the communities we serve,” said Leah Magallanes, Vice President for Quality and Sustainability at SMHCC. “Initiatives like the Biodiesel Project demonstrate how circular economy practices can create tangible impact, turning everyday operations into opportunities for environmental stewardship and inclusive growth.”
Through these efforts, SMHCC continues to champion a greener, more resilient hospitality industry, where innovation, community engagement, and sustainability go hand in hand.

Whether you are celebrating a milestone birthday, an anniversary, or simply the joy of being together, Pico Sands Hotel offers the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.
There is a unique kind of magic that happens when you see the green hills of Nasugbu, Batangas finally settling into the quiet, blue waters of Pico de Loro. For our family, this picturesque landscape served as the backdrop for a milestone birthday celebration. We set our sights on Pico Sands Hotel—a tropical sanctuary nestled within the sprawling Pico de Loro Cove. What followed was not just a weekend trip; it was a wonderful experience of warm hospitality and family togetherness.
Pico Sands Hotel.
A Warm Welcome and a Heartfelt Surprise
The experience began the moment we stepped into the airy, high-ceilinged lobby. We were greeted not just by the cool breeze, but by the genuine smiles of the staff whose warmth is a hallmark of the resort experience. As we checked in, there was an air of efficiency paired with a personal touch that made us feel less like guests and more like returning friends. It was like a “home away from home” feeling and the attentive staff.
The Birthday Touch: Knowing we were there to celebrate a birthday (my daughter Bea’s 22nd birthday), the hotel went above and beyond. Upon entering our room, we were met with a delightful surprise: a beautifully crafted personalized greeting and a complimentary birthday cake waiting on the table. It is these thoughtful gestures—the small details that require extra effort—that transform a standard staycation into a lifelong memory. The room itself, with its modern coastal aesthetics and a balcony overlooking the serene lagoon, provided the perfect sanctuary for our family.

Culinary Delights by the Cove
Great food makes for a great staycation, and the culinary delights at Pico Sands Hotel made our stay truly special.
The relaxing ambiance of Pico Restaurant.
Our meals at Pico Restaurant were a standout. From the hearty breakfast buffet that fueled our mornings to the exquisite dinner spreads, the culinary team showcased a wonderful balance of local Filipino flavors and international favorites.
Lunch spread at Pico Restaurant.
The seafood, as expected, was remarkably fresh, the chicken teriyaki, pizza, pasta, and tiramisu became an instant family favorite. Dining while looking out at the lagoon as the sun dipped below the horizon added a layer of tranquility to every bite.
Dishes we enjoyed at Lagoa.
We enjoyed a wonderful family lunch at Lagoa, the all-day dining venue of Pico de Loro Country Club. Their menu is a true pan-Asian journey, featuring authentic flavors from Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, India, and the Philippines. We particularly loved the Pad Thai, the vegetable curry, and the grilled bangus.
Sun-Drenched Adventures
For a family that loves the outdoors, the activities at Pico de Loro Cove are unparalleled. The true highlight, however, was the Cove Tour. We boarded a speed boat that whisked us away to explore the hidden gems of the coastline. Seeing the jagged limestone cliffs and the variety of fish during our snorkeling, gave us a new appreciation for Batangas’ natural beauty.

We eventually settled at the Pico Beach, where the powdery sand and calm waters invited us for a long afternoon of swimming. There is something profoundly restorative about the rhythmic sound of the ocean, especially when shared with the people you love most.
We spent our second day hopping between the various swimming pools. The infinity pool near the hotel offered a sophisticated vibe, while the other club pools were a hit with the kids, providing plenty of space for splashing and play.

Hospitality That Feels Like Home
Throughout our stay, the “warm hospitality” we had heard so much about was evident in every interaction. Whether it was the lifeguard offering a friendly tip on the best snorkeling spots or the housekeeping staff ensuring our every need was met with a smile, the service was impeccable. It is clear that the team at Pico Sands Hotel takes pride in their work, creating an environment where families can truly disconnect from stress and reconnect with each other.

In a time when travel choices are becoming more intentional, Taal Vista Hotel invites guests to rediscover Filipino heritage through a meaningful and immersive culinary journey—right in the heart of Tagaytay.
This April, the hotel’s all day dining restaurant, Veranda Restaurant, unveils “Mga Bayan ng mga Bayani,” a thoughtfully curated dining series that brings history to life through food, storytelling, and place.
Inspired by the eight rays of the Philippine flag, the campaign honors the provinces that played a pivotal role in the country’s fight for freedom. More than a tribute to individual heroes, the initiative places towns and regions at the center of the narrative recognizing them as living witnesses to revolution, resilience, and reform.
Experience a meaningful feast at Veranda, where every buffet tells a story.
At its core, Mga Bayan ng mga Bayani is built on a simple yet powerful belief: to understand our heroes, we must first understand the places—and the tables—that nurtured them.
Manila in April: A Culinary Tribute in Tagaytay
Kicking off the series is a special feature on Manila, happening every Saturday and Sunday of April starting April 11, exclusively during the lunch buffet at Veranda Restaurant in Tagaytay.
While the spotlight is on Manila’s rich heritage, the experience itself unfolds in the cool and scenic setting of Tagaytay, offering guests a unique opportunity to explore the capital’s history through cuisine without leaving the city.
This opening chapter highlights dishes inspired by the lives and legacies of Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Jacinto, and Melchora Aquino—figures whose stories are deeply intertwined with Manila’s cultural and culinary evolution.
Tinolang Manok – Veranda’s version. This comforting Filipino classic is inspired by the nurturing spirit of Melchora Aquino, known as the “Mother of the Revolution,” who cared for and fed the Katipuneros during the Philippine Revolution.
“Through Mga Bayan ng mga Bayani, we want to tell the story of our nation through flavors—how each dish carries the memory of a place, a struggle, and a shared identity,” shares Godfrey ‘Kim’ Dalisay, Executive Sous Chef. “This April, we begin with Manila—not just as a capital, but as a melting pot of influences that shaped Filipino cuisine as we know it today.”
Guests can expect a thoughtfully curated spread that reflects Manila’s layered history—from colonial influences to its role as the heart of revolutionary movements—expressed through flavors that are both nostalgic and rediscovered.
A Journey Across the Eight Rays
Following Manila, the culinary series continues each month, tracing the historical and gastronomic landscapes of key provinces:
May: Pampanga and Tarlac
June: Laguna and Batangas
July: Bulacan and Nueva Ecija
August: Cavite
Each chapter offers a fresh perspective—inviting diners to experience the Philippines not just as a destination, but as a collection of stories told through flavor.
A Timely Invitation to Rediscover Local
As evolving global conditions influence how and where people travel, Mga Bayan ng mga Bayani offers a timely reminder of the richness found close to home. Nestled in Tagaytay’s cool climate and overlooking the iconic Taal landscape, Taal Vista Hotel provides a convenient and meaningful escape—where culture, comfort, and cuisine come together seamlessly.

The bakery stands as a proof that some traditions are too deeply woven into a community to disappear. Fires may destroy walls and roofs, but the taste people grow up with—and the memories baked into it—will always find their way back home. A story of resilience and rebuilding.
After decades of serving freshly baked bread to the community of Sta. Mesa, Bakery sa Pureza, formerly known as The Old Pureza Bakery, has reopened its doors at 350 Pureza St. corner Araullo St., Barangay 626, Manila—bringing back the familiar aromas and flavors that generations of residents have grown up with.
More than just a neighborhood bakery, the shop has long been a quiet meeting place for the community. Students on their way to class, workers heading to early shifts, and longtime residents starting their mornings have all passed through its doors for warm pandesal, Spanish bread, and other classic Filipino pastries. For over three decades, the family-run bakery built a reputation not only for affordable bread but also for consistency—customers knew exactly what taste to expect every time they walked in.
However, that daily ritual was suddenly interrupted when a devastating fire forced the bakery to shut down temporarily. For many residents in Pureza, the closure felt like losing a small but meaningful part of the neighborhood. Loyal customers wondered if they would ever taste their favorite breads again.
For the family behind the bakery, rebuilding the shop meant more than restoring a business. It meant protecting a tradition. According to Tara Nicole Bucao, one of the second generation owners, the secret to the bakery’s longevity was never just its location or its physical structure.
“It was definitely the making of our breads,” Bucao said. “Set aside the location and structure of the bakery itself, what kept us going for more than 30 years was how the taste of our bread stayed the same and how it connected to the people of Pureza.”
While the building had to be reconstructed, the recipes remained untouched. The family made it a priority to preserve the same flavors customers had loved for decades, believing that the familiar taste would reassure people that the bakery they grew up with was still there.
Encouragement from the community also played a crucial role in the decision to reopen. Even during the months when the shop was closed, residents would stop by or send messages asking when the bakery would return.
“People would say, ‘Namimiss ko na Spanish bread niyo’ or ‘Wala na kami mabilhan na masarap na pandesal.’ Those comments were enough to let us know we made the right decision in coming back,” Bucao shared.
Today, the bakery once again draws customers from all walks of life. Students from the nearby Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) regularly drop by for pan de coco and ensaymada between classes, while longtime residents line up as early as 5: 00 a.m. for freshly baked pandesal. Yet among all its offerings, the bakery’s Spanish bread remains the crowd favorite, often selling out before the day ends.
Although the bakery retained its traditional menu, the shop itself now features a refreshed industrial-style interior. Customers initially mistake the store for an upscale café, only to be pleasantly surprised that the bread remains affordable.
As the ovens glow once again and the scent of freshly baked pandesal drifts through Pureza Street each morning, the bakery stands as a proof that some traditions are too deeply woven into a community to disappear. Fires may destroy walls and roofs, but the taste people grow up with—and the memories baked into it—will always find their way back home.
Boracay Newcoast, a Megaworld township located at the northeastern part of the island, continues to strengthen its position as a destination capable of hosting meaningful and culturally significant gatherings, demonstrating how integrated townships can evolve to meet the needs of diverse global travelers.
Following a successful celebration of Hari Raya, the 150-hectare township reinforces its readiness to support Muslim friendly tourism not just through infrastructure, but through intentional collaboration, cultural understanding, and community engagement.
The celebration unfolded across multiple spaces within the township, each thoughtfully aligned with the purpose of the event. The day began with a Halal culinary experience led by Chef Tahir Malikol, where Muslim and non-Muslim participants including students, island based chefs, hobbyists, and enthusiasts came together in a shared learning environment. At the Al Fresco, the outdoor dining area across Belmont Hotel Boracay, a bazaar and art exhibit brought together textiles, jewelry pieces, and artworks from different Muslim communities, offering a deeper appreciation of culture through craftsmanship and storytelling.
The evening transitioned into the Hari Raya observance at Cove 2, where prayers were led by an Imam, followed by the symbolic lighting of lanterns with community leaders, representing unity, hope, and shared faith. The celebration culminated in a feast at the Boracay Newcoast Convention Center Garden, where program elements, performances, and the communal sharing of a meal brought together guests in a meaningful expression of togetherness.
From a national perspective, the Department of Tourism recognizes the importance of such initiatives in advancing the Philippines’ position in the global Muslim travel market.
Undersecretary Myra Paz Valderrosa Abubakar notes, “We’re happy to see how much Boracay, through Megaworld Hotels and Resorts with its hotel properties in Boracay Newcoast, is embracing Muslim tourism. Hari Raya is one of the most meaningful celebrations in the Muslim faith, marking the end of Ramadan with gratitude, reflection, and community. Beyond spaces that are readily available within its township, we salute the collaborative efforts of their team for coming up with a meaningful celebration that truly captures the essence of the event. As DOT, our goal is for all service providers to have the enthusiasm to learn new markets, increasing our capability to attract more Muslim travelers to the Philippines.”
Celebrating Culture Through Food
Central to the experience was a thoughtfully curated menu that reflected the rich culinary traditions of Muslim Mindanao, bringing together flavors from various ethnolinguistic groups and communities. From the Kagan tradition, Suwabay, a rice-based staple associated with royalty, and Tininuwan, a coconut infused dish prepared for special occasions, highlighted everyday heritage and ceremonial dining.
Halal cuisine takes center stage at the first Hari Raya.
Maguindanaon cuisine was represented through Linigil, a chicken dish simmered in coconut milk with turmeric and native spices, and Inasakan a Layagan, a stuffed crab dish enriched with coconut and herbs, reflecting deep rooted culinary traditions.
From the Iranun community, Siager Udang, a shrimp delicacy blended with fresh herbs and young coconut, and Sinina a Kambing, a coconut-based goat stew slow cooked with native spices, showcased coastal influences and communal dining practices.
Maranao specialties including Riyandang a Sape, a slow braised beef dish in coconut reduction, and Pindialukan a Manok, a richly spiced chicken dish simmered in coconut milk, brought forward flavors traditionally served during gatherings.
Tausug and Yakan dishes such as Piyanggang Manok, known for its deep smoky coconut profile, and Papaya Bubuk, a vegetable dish infused with native spices, added diversity to the spread, alongside Moro delicacies such as Daral, Dudol, and Sendol, traditionally prepared for festive occasions.
Chef Tahir Malikol shares, “The world knows so little about Muslim Mindanao cooking. That is why it has been my advocacy to partner with brands who support our beliefs and traditions. Working with MHR on conducting a cooking class has been enriching and gratifying, knowing that not only do I get to live my advocacy but also work with a brand who collaborates in amplifying our goal of reaching better appreciation from groups beyond ours.”
For Megaworld Hotels and Resorts, the initiative represents part of a broader and continuing journey, one anchored in both national identity and global inclusivity.
Cluster General Manager Sonny Alvaro shares, “Since 2023, our commitment to helping the country position itself as a Muslim friendly destination only grows stronger. Guided by the Sampaguita, our brand of service anchored on love, honor, dignity, and healing, our hotels in Boracay Newcoast including Belmont Hotel Boracay, Chancellor Hotel Boracay, and Savoy Hotel Boracay are driven to create experiences that go beyond utility. We design gatherings with intention and purpose, ensuring that every celebration is not only well executed, but deeply felt. The more we learn and break barriers, the more we truly get to showcase how Filipino warmth knows no limits in making everyone feel welcomed.”
Supporting these experiences is a growing ecosystem of purpose-built spaces within Boracay Newcoast. Marhaba Beach serves as the country’s first dedicated Muslim friendly beach space, while the Boracay Newcoast Convention Center enables dialogue and community engagement. This is complemented by Savoy Hotel Boracay with its Halal certified dining, alongside Belmont Hotel Boracay and Chancellor Hotel Boracay, expanding the township’s ability to host large scale, multi day gatherings.
As the Philippines continues to expand its reach in the global tourism landscape, Boracay Newcoast offers a working model of how destinations can adapt with purpose, where spaces, partnerships, and shared values come together to create experiences that are not only memorable, but meaningful.

Prime Location in Cebu’s South Road Properties
Located within Cebu’s fast-rising South Road Properties (SRP), the region’s most ambitious development corridor, the venue offers seamless connectivity to SM Seaside City Cebu via a link bridge, with direct access to SM Hotels’ uprising hotel properties: a dual-branded development that showcases both the Radisson and Park Inn by Radisson brands. It also stands adjacent to SM Arena Seaside Cebu. This enables event organizers to create a fully integrated event ecosystem in a single destination, where delegates can conveniently access convention facilities, large-scale entertainment venues, as well as a wide range of dining, retail, and leisure experiences within a compact and well-connected district.
A New Benchmark: The Philippines’ Largest Convention Center

Its four expansive, column-free exhibition halls feature an impressive 10-meter vertical clearance and industry-grade floor loading capacity of 250 lbs per square foot, ideal for large-scale trade shows, international exhibitions, and high-impact events. Complementing these are eight function rooms and nineteen meeting rooms, designed to accommodate a wide range of corporate and social gatherings.
The venue is equipped with advanced technical infrastructure, including robust rigging load capacities, multiple freight and car lifts for efficient ingress and egress, and large roll-up doors for seamless event setup. A 10-meter-high pre-function lobby, executive VIP lounge, and fourteen strategically located kitchens further enhance its ability to host simultaneous, large-scale events with premium service delivery.
