Feel like a main character and make 2023 the best year ever!

If your life were turned into a movie, would you be playing the role of the main character, or are you just another forgettable supporting character? This 2023, make sure you’re the main character in your life story – discovering new faces and places, experiencing new joys, and making the decisions that matter. To do that, you have to look and feel your best. Thankfully, you can have some trusted allies such as Head and Shoulders to make you feel in control.

Having that main character energy doesn’t always come easily. You have to be on top of things, and be in control of what lies ahead. That, of course, doesn’t come easily if you’re not feeling confident because of small, everyday reasons and distractions that leave you with the feeling of not being in control. Traffic, new deadlines, the itchies – these can easily throw you off.

The good news is you can still radiate main character energy despite all these. Face 2023 by resolving to be in control of your day with #NoITCHuations. Here’s how:

Have a positive mindset. You can only radiate main character energy if you stay positive and see the good in every situation. That means realizing that there are things that are totally in your control, and things that are not. What can’t you control? Traffic, weather, people’s feelings. What can you control? Your time, your plans, and your responses to everyday challenges. Try to see the best in every situation, and think about how your presence or action can make even dreary situations turn better.

Remember your aspirations. When there are too many things happening at the same time, you might forget what you are striving for – whether it’s achieving major dreams or little but important wants such as going on vacation, a new outfit, or changing hairstyles. Even when you’re swamped by your schedule and everyday pressures, remember your little goals. Have a list of what these are and make time and plans to make these plans happen.

Turn to trusted solutions and allies for your quick fixes. Face it, you can’t do everything on your own. There will also be hitches and distractions in the day for which you’ll need reliable partners. Take itchies – they can put you in #itchuations that can just make you lose your focus and confidence. Take control by using H&S, the world’s #1 anti-dandruff shampoo brand that can keep you 100% dandruff-free and itch-free for 24 hours.

H&S Cool Menthol gives you superior scalp care with every wash, cleaning deeply with a menthol fresh feeling while keeping your hair beautifully moisturized – helping you channel main character energy. It is dermatologically tested, pH balanced and boosted with antioxidants for gentle care of hair and scalp.  With H&S, you don’t have to be distracted by dandruff and an itchy scalp.

Globe warns vs online offers for SIM registration assistance

Globe cautions its customers against offers of SIM registration assistance online and advises them not to share personal information to protect their data security and privacy.

There are already reports of individuals taking advantage of the SIM registration requirement. They offer their services through social media either for free or for a fee and request the name, photo, valid ID, birthday, cell phone number, and address of SIM users.

Such personal information, when in the wrong hands, may be used to impersonate their owners, access their accounts, steal money, or other fraudulent activities. Identity thieves may also open accounts in another person’s name, run up debt, or commit crimes, causing damaged reputation and financial problems.

“We want to remind our customers to be wary of these types of offers and to only use official channels for their SIM registration,” said Irish Salandanan-Almeida, Globe’s Chief Privacy Officer. “Your personal information is valuable and we urge you to protect it from those who may want to use it for unlawful purposes.”

Instead of seeking help from unknown individuals, customers may register their SIMs for free at https://new.globe.com.ph/simreg. Registration through the GlobeOne app will also start later this month. They may also ask a trusted family member or friend for assistance.

Starting February 2023, Globe will also have assisted registration sites for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, and users of basic or feature phones. The list of Globe’s registration sites will be announced through our official websites in the coming weeks.

There are 87.9 million SIMs under the Globe network. So far, over 7 million have registered.

To make the SIM registration process accessible and convenient for all, the company is offering multiple channels for registration. Customers are encouraged to take advantage of these options and complete their SIM registration before the deadline on April 26, 2023, to avoid the risk of SIM deactivation.

The SIM Registration Act, which requires mobile phone users in the Philippines to register their SIMs with their service providers, is being implemented to address the growing problem of fraudulent activities enabled by anonymous SIM use.

Highly-acclaimed French thespians were in town for the festival

As part of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of France-Philippines diplomatic relations, the French Film Festival has recently curated movies composed of current releases and new ones that came out in the last two years.

Award-winning and accomplished French actress Isabelle Huppert and French actor Lucas Bravo who became popular for his portrayal of Gabriel in the hit Netflix series Emily in Paris engaged moviegoers, fans, and the media in a brief interview about their movies that were screened for the festival.  Huppert and Bravo are part of the cast of Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris by Anthony Fabian. About Joan by Laurent Larivière and Promises by Thomas Kruithof are the two most recent films starring Huppert. She is also the main actress in Brillante Mendoza’s Captive.

Filipinos and the French share a passion for moving images. Soon after the Lumière brothers invented cinema, Pathé projectors found their way to the Philippine islands and soon enough Filipinos were making films already. The French Film Festival has been bringing some of the most critically acclaimed and crowd pleasers to the discerning Filipino audience in search of movies that look into social issues, family values, and beautiful scenery that are close to the heart.

French Film Festival – French Ambassador Michele Boccoz and French Actress Isabelle Huppert.

Opening the festival, Eiffel by Director Martin Bourboulon recounts the building of the Eiffel Tower inspired by a love story. The selection includes Lost Illusions by Xavier Gianolli, Farewell Mr. Haffmann by Fred Cavayé, set in Paris during World War 2, Notre Dame on Fire by Jean-Jacques Anneaud about the incident that damaged another historical monument in the center of Paris, Him by Guillaume Canet on the life of a music composer, Paris Memories, remembering Paris under terrorist attacks, a sequel to the popular French agent OSS 117: From Africa with Love. Rise by Cédric Klapisch tells an inspiring story about a ballet dancer.

The French Film Festival is also the event that brings together France and the Philippines with the screening of Filipino films that have gained recognition from the French audience. Like On the Job by Erik Matti which was shown in the Director’s Fortnight in Cannes. OTJ Missing 8 will be screening also at the festival.

At the height of the pandemic, Director Sigrid Bernardo flew to Paris with actors and crew to shoot Walang Kaparis, produced by Piolo Pascual. While the film is still in post-production, it paves the way toward co-productions between France and the Philippines.

Under the Chairmanship of Tirso Cruz III, the Film Development Council of the Philippines will strive to work toward the signing of a co-production agreement between France and the Philippines that will open more opportunities for collaboration between filmmakers and more French and Filipino movies in the near future.

With the highlighted events, both embassies hope to showcase the continuing commitment of France and the Philippines to boost and expand their partnership on various fronts, most notably in trade and investment, defense and maritime cooperation, industrial development, climate action, and culture and people-to-people exchanges.

Since then, both countries have taken significant steps to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific area and uphold international law.  Joint action in the fight against climate change and the promotion of cultural exchanges are undertaken between the French and Filipino people.

The celebration of the 75th Anniversary in 2022 through all the events jointly organized by the Embassy and Filipino partners highlight the strong and vibrant relations between the two countries, mixing business with pleasure, from gastronomy to art, basketball to the cinema, education to dance, and everything in between.

The enthusiasm of both people in working together, creating together, playing together, and performing together is a significant promise for a bright future for the next 75 years.

Globe celebrates Extra GDay

Globe is celebrating life’s big and small wins this year with an EXTRA special 917 GDay. For the first time since the pandemic, its much-anticipated G Music Fest will be held live on-ground, offering the best in music, entertainment, culture, and arts.

The National G Day on September 17, or 917, is Globe’s annual tradition of giving back to its customers, set on a date that is symbolic of Globe’s iconic mobile number prefix. This year, the event will be held at Circuit Makati, where exciting rewards and surprises await everyone, guaranteed to turn ordinary days into something extraordinary.

To ensure a safe environment, Globe, a staunch sustainability advocate, is calling for festival goers’ and their partners’ participation in observing health and safety protocols and properly disposing of their waste and limiting the use of single-use plastics during the event.

“As we come together to enjoy a fun and exciting day of music and togetherness, Globe keeps in mind that sustainability is a priority. We have set recommendations to help our festival goers follow sustainable practices while still making the most out of our extra special GDay,” said Jerome Patalud, Head of Globe Rewards.

Here are ways our festival-goers can have fun while still taking care of the environment at the G Music Fest:

  1. Clean As You Go (CLAYGO)

Festival-goers are encouraged to keep the festival grounds clean by throwing their trash properly in the assigned bins. There will be six (6) sets of bins labeled biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and recyclables around the concert grounds.

For guidance of event attendees, these are particular to:

  1. Biodegradable waste – leftover food
  2. Non-biodegradable waste – used utensils, paper cups and food packaging
  3. Recyclables – aluminum cans and PET bottles
  1. Use GCash for transactions

We also encourage concert goers to go cashless in transacting with establishments at the event, as all stalls are equipped to accept GCash payments.

  1. Electric buses

Globe is also deploying GET electric buses for festival-goers, who will be able to get a ride from two routes:

  • Ayala One (Ayala Ave, Central Business District) straight to Circuit Makati
  • LRT Gil Puyat Station (Buendia cor. Taft Ave.) to Circuit Makati.

This service will be available throughout the whole day, making multiple trips back-and-forth from the pick-up point and concert venue. To avail of the ride, Globe and TM Customers just need to show their New Globe One app.

Safety Measures

In light of recent announcements on loosening mask wearing restrictions outdoors, Globe is strongly encouraging all concert-goers to wear face masks at all times to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Festival goers must also bring their vaccination cards as these will be checked upon entry to the venue.

Medical assistance will be available on-site with 20 medics, 3 ambulances, and 1 fire truck ready to respond in case of any emergency. A firetruck will also be on standby at the venue.

Festival goers are encouraged to bring jackets, caps or raincoats, and folding umbrellas in case of inclement weather. Full-size umbrellas with pointed ends are prohibited as a safety precaution.

Now in its third year, G Music Fest was born during the health crisis to inspire optimism and recognize the Filipinos’ continued patronage of Globe. It has featured some of the best local and international music artists, including LANY, Honne, BEKA, Vance Joy, SB19, The Juans, December Avenue, and more.

On top of the live performances, GDay will have meet and greet sessions with Globe Brand Ambassadors and endorsers. Different brands and rewards booths will be available at the venue for extra treats and surprises. Food halls, bars, and various merchandise will also be present at the event hall.

Overcoming a personal challenge and finding the right career

Overdoughs, famous for its mouthwatering chonky cookies and donuts, stands out not just for its products but for providing employment and opportunities for the deaf.

When his mother was pregnant with him, she contracted German measles. This caused 31-year-old Jan Aldrin L. Lontoc to be born deaf. Lontoc, however, did not allow his condition to affect what he wanted to achieve in life – to be the best version of himself and to be a valuable member of the community.

After graduating from a two-year course in hotel and restaurant services, Lontoc worked as a part-time waiter in a catering company. He also had stints in Bench and Hapee Toothpaste.

“I learned about the Caravan Food Group, Inc. when I submitted my resume at the UNILAB Office. And that was the start of my working relationship with Elait in 2017,” Lontoc said.

The Caravan Food Group Inc. is the company behind Elait and Overdoughs. Elait offers ice cream where customers can witness ice cream being rolled with their favorite flavors right in front of them. Overdoughs, on the other hand, offers their very own versions of donuts or doughnuts, mouthwatering chunky cookies or Chonky Cookies, brownies or brookies, pizza, and fries.

What makes these two establishments stand out is that they provide employment and opportunities for the deaf.

“When I was a teenager, I remember visiting a clothing shop. The employees at the shop were all at the cashier talking to each other. And then there was a guy who approached me but he was not talking. He was trying his best to assist me and it was then that I noticed that there was a name tag and the word deaf was placed,’ recalled Francis Carl Reyes, CEO, and Founder of Caravan Food Group Inc.

That was Reyes’ first experience with a deaf person who he felt was the “epitome of good customer service. No matter who you are, he is going to assist you. No judgment.” That experience made him decide that he would employ deaf partners for his store.

He tried out the deaf partner program initially with Elait. When he saw that it was doing well, he implemented it at Overdoughs. Initially, Reyes started with two tables and two deaf partners and he would be observing how they were doing their jobs.

Before he was deployed in Elait, Lontoc underwent training and he said that it was a good experience for him.

“I learned a lot during my training with Elait. I learned how to roll the ice cream properly and serve customers. After a while, my supervisors allowed me to transfer to Overdoughs. There, I learned to prepare the doughnuts and our best-selling Chonky Cookies,” Lontoc said.

Jan with other colleagues and deaf partners at a training session last March 2022.

Despite the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, Lontoc persevered and rose the ranks to become a team leader in just five years.

“As of now, I am currently in training to be an area supervisor and I am very thankful to my managers because they are very supportive,” Lontoc said.

Lontoc will have his hands full in the coming months as Reyes hopes to convert more of their Overdoughs outlets into cafes so that customers can get to savor their other products like pizzas, fried chicken, fries, and empanadas.

Overdoughs currently has one such outlet in Greenhills where customers can not only enjoy good food but do good as well.

“I have learned to do my best, to be patient, trustworthy, dependable. I want to be a successful area supervisor, a position, I hope I can have for a lifetime. Now that I am married, I want to have a stable job for my family,” Lontoc said.
