Best Director Balanghai trophies go to filmmakers Sari Dalena and Elian Idioma. For her film CINEMARTYRS, director Dalena has shown “her bold and visionary authorship that fuses cinema, history, and haunting memory into a singular act of resistance; for reclaiming women’s voices within the nation’s buried traumas through guerrilla filmmaking that is both mystical and political.”

Director Idioma, on the other hand, takes home his first Balanghai trophy for I’M BEST LEFT INSIDE MY HEADfor “its deft control of tone, emotional precision, and psychological depth; for transforming a young man’s haunting homecoming to his former orphanage into a meditation on guilt, privilege, and belonging rendered with remarkable sensitivity and vision, the award.”

CHILD NO. 82 won Best Screenplay in the Full-Length Category. Writers Tim Rone Villanueva and Herlyn Alegre were commended for their “witty and poignant writing that turns a son’s desperate longing to meet his legendary father into a journey of truth and self-discovery; for peeling away the myth of a larger-than-life movie idol to reveal the fragile heart of fatherhood.”

Handiong Kapuno’s FIGAT received the Best Screenplay award in the Short Film Category for “its sheer authenticity, lyrical storytelling, and cultural depth, for its powerful affirmation of indigenous identity amid modern distractions, and for its heartfelt portrayal of a young Kalinga girl preserving her heritage through music.”

The NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asia Pacific Cinema) Award for Best Film in the Full-Length Category went to REPUBLIKA NG PIPOLIPINAS by Renei Dimla, for “its powerful story about resistance, citizenship, and the search for belonging. The film stands out for its courage, creativity, and heart.”

For the Short Film Category, HASANG by Daniel De La Cruz takes home the NETPAC Award for “its tender, poetic work that blurs the line between myth and memory, and  between the real and the spiritual with remarkable restraint. The film stands out for its delicate storytelling, stunning visual simplicity, and deep spiritual resonance.”

HABANG NILALAMON NG HYDRA ANG KASAYSAYAN took home three major acting awards.

Actor Jojit Lorenzo won Best Performance of An Actor for “his restrained yet piercing portrayal of a political strategist confronting disillusionment and moral exhaustion in a nation consumed by lies; for embodying the quiet despair and stubborn hope of a man searching for meaning amid history’s erasure.”

While Tanghalang Pilipino artistic director Nanding Josef was recognized as Best Performance of a Supporting Actor for “his chilling yet deeply human portrayal of a once-feared Martial Law general now fading into the fog of dementia; for embodying both the terror of tyranny and the fragility of remorse.”

Actress Mylene Dizon won the award for Best Performance of An Actress. Dizon was praised for “her searing and compassionate portrayal of a daughter haunted by the sins of her father—a onetime enforcer of a brutal regime—yet bound to protect him in his frailty; for embodying a conscience torn between love, guilt, and moral reckoning.”

Rochelle Pangilinan for CHILD NO. 82 was recognized as Best Performance of a Supporting Actress for “her restrained yet searing portrayal of a mother holding her dignity amid abandonment and illusion; for embodying both the ache of loss and the quiet strength of survival as she watches her son chase the myth of a father who was never there.”

Technical awards include:

BEST EDITING – Che Tagyamon and Arnex Nicolas (BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED), for “its seamless weaving of testimonies, memories, and silences into a resonant tapestry of truth; for transforming the stories of the detained, the disappeared, and the fallen into a cohesive and deeply affecting chronicle of courage.”

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY – Theo Lozada (RAGING), for “its evocative interplay of light and shadow that mirrors a young man’s silence and awakening; for capturing the humid stillness of Romblon’s seas and forests as landscapes of both trauma and truth.”

BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN – Jeric Delos Angeles (PADAMLÁGAN), for “transforming archival fragments, survivor testimonies, and lived spaces into a seamless visual world where fiction and history converge; for reconstructing 1972 Naga City with both authenticity and reverence — from the fluvial devotion of Peñafrancia to the ruins of the Colgante Bridge — and for crafting a setting that honors memory as much as it reveals loss.”

BEST MUSICAL SCORING – Teresa Barrozo (CINEMARTYRS), for “its inspired fusion of ethnic Mindanao rhythms and cinematic nostalgia; for weaving ancestral memory with the lyricism of old Tagalog screen romances to deepen a film on colonial violence and female artistry.”

BEST SOUND – Lamberto Casas, Jr. (RAGING), for “its immersive soundscape that transforms silence, sea, and sorrow into an echo of buried trauma; for amplifying the unspoken anguish of a young man whose cry for help is met with indifference, deepening his isolation and pain.”

BEST ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCE – The cast of OPEN ENDINGS by Nigel Santos and Keavy Eunice Vicente, for “the seamless chemistry, emotional depth, and playful vitality of four performances that breathe life into a rare story of chosen family and intimacy; and for capturing with honesty, humor, and grace the enduring bonds between queer women navigating love, loss, and friendship.” The ensemble was composed of actresses Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Janella Salvador, Klea Pineda, and Leanne Mamonong.

The Special Jury Prize winners were CINEMARTYRS by Sari Dalena, cited for “transforming the act of filmmaking itself into a gesture of remembrance and revolt, for fusing guerrilla filmmaking, mysticism, and archival memory to confront the ghosts of violence—both historical and cinematic—with conviction, and for her luminous homage to the first women filmmakers of Philippine cinema who turned art into testimony.”; and KAY BASTA ANGKARABO YAY BAGAY IBAT HA LANGIT (OBJECTS DO NOT RANDOMLY FALL FROM THE SKY) by Maria Estela Paiso, cited for “its fearless vision, poetic fury, and striking fusion of myth and memory; for transforming the West Philippine Sea’s wounds into a powerful cinematic allegory of sovereignty and rage.”

Globe Brings Learning, Music and Inspiration to Students in Cagayan Province

Cagayan province is home to over 3.66 million people, with youth aged 15 to 24 accounting for nearly one-fifth of its population. Internet use is widespread, with three out of four residents aged 10 and above already online. Yet, many continue to face barriers in accessing and maximizing digital tools in ways that are safe, responsible, and creative.

To help bridge these gaps, Globe launched a series of engagements that gathered more than 750 students across the region, providing lessons on digital citizenship, leadership, and creative expression.

Building on this effort, Globe organized a three-day program in partnership with three institutions. The sessions combined digital literacy modules, leadership workshops, and creative platforms designed to nurture future-ready communities in Cagayan province.

Investing in the Next Generation

Globe’s programs in Cagayan province reaffirm its commitment to prepare young Filipinos for the future by strengthening their digital skills, leadership abilities, and creative platforms for self-expression.

“As we saw in Cagayan province, young Filipinos are already shaping their own futures with technology, leadership, and creativity. At Globe, we see the youth not just as future leaders but as leaders of today. Our role is to stand beside them as they build a better tomorrow for their communities and the nation,” said Raymond Mancilla, Territory Business Head.

A Generation of Innovation, Leadership, and Community

In Cagayan, Globe’s Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) is empowering students to be not just digital natives but active changemakers. At Peñablanca National High School, 250 students joined DTP sessions on responsible digital citizenship. Instead of passively waiting to learn, they shared the advanced AI tools they already use in their studies, such as Nomunity, Study Talk, Perplexity, Blackbox AI, and Scholar.ai — proof of their openness to innovation and their ability to find new ways to learn.

At Cagayan State University, more than 350 student leaders gathered to explore how leadership can be rooted in everyday actions that shape their peers and communities. Through DTP and complementary workshops on inclusivity, responsibility, and student voice, participants were encouraged to see themselves as active drivers of change.

The program culminated in the TM Fun Music concert, which brought together over 2,500 students from the CSU Andrews and Carig campuses. Performances by Amiel Sol, student artists, and local talents transformed the event into a celebration of creativity and community spirit.

“We sincerely thank our partners at Globe for sharing their time, efforts, and resources with the students of Cagayan State University Andrews Campus. Through the Digital Thumbprint Program, we were reminded of the importance of using technology responsibly, while the concert gave us a chance to celebrate and come together as one community. These activities brought both learning and joy, leaving a lasting impact on us as more informed, connected, and inspired individuals,” said Kyle Aron Tan, CSU Student Regent and Andrews Campus Student Council President.

Beyond the Skills

For the 150 medical student leaders at the Medical Colleges of Northern Philippines, DTP offered more than lessons on digital responsibility. It became a reminder that in healthcare, leadership is not measured only by knowledge but also by empathy, ethics, and accountability. “The seminar was an eye-opening experience for all the student leaders, making them realize the importance of being responsible digital citizens in today’s fast-changing online world. I believe that each of us gained practical knowledge on how to protect our identity online, secure our personal information, and be more critical when encountering content on social media especially with the rise of fake news and misinformation,” said MSNP-ISAP Student Activities Coordinator, James Vidad.

From classrooms to concert stages and from leadership workshops to personal journeys, Globe’s work in Cagayan province highlights one truth. The brilliance of Filipino youth is the country’s greatest harvest. By nurturing their potential, Globe is helping shape a generation of leaders, creators, and changemakers who will carry the promise of a brighter future.

Cuartel de Santo Domingo Marks Twin Anniversaries with 3-Day Heritage Celebration

Today, the Cuartel de Santo Domingo stands as a living reminder of Santa Rosa’s rich history, showcasing what communities can accomplish when they actively honor their heritage.

Santa Rosa, Laguna, has recently become a hub of history, heritage, and community pride, as dignitaries, stakeholders, and heritage advocates gathered at the historic Cuartel de Santo Domingo for a milestone celebration. The event underscored the city’s vibrant cultural legacy and brought together leaders and advocates in a shared commitment to preserve and honor Santa Rosa’s rich past.

The event marked two anniversaries: the 20th year since the Cuartel was declared a National Historical Landmark, and the 25th founding anniversary of Kilusan Cuartel de Santo Domingo, Inc. (KCSD), the nonprofit organization championing its preservation.

Among the guests were Laguna Governor Marisol Castillo Aragones-Sampelo, Representative Roy Gonzales, Santa Rosa City Mayor Arlene B. Arcillas, Councilor Joey Catindig, Councilor Carmela Rosa Gonzales-Colmenar, Councilor Petronio Factoriza, and Councilor Eusebio Batitis Jr. Also present were former Ambassador to the Vatican Grace Relucio Princesa, Dr. Hereberto Jose Miranda of DepEd Santa Rosa Laguna, as guest speakers. SAF PNP Director PMGen Mark D. Pespes,  former Representative for 1-Rider Partylist Col. Bonifacio Bosita, Father Gabriel Delfino, the PNP, BJMP, and cultural institutions also graced the occasion.

Batitis Jr., Councilor Mary Janine Cydney R. Aala, Antonia T. Laserna, KCSD Inc. Chairperson Gemalin Batino-Diaz, DepEd Superintendent Dr. Hereberto Jose D. Miranda, and Councilor Jose B. Catindig Jr.

The three-day event held from September 24 to 26 opened with a Heritage Conference and several ceremonial launches at the Cuartel Admin Building, including the Santa Rosa Heritage Magazine, the KCSD official website, and an exhibit titled First of First, dedicated to Mayor Arcillas.

“Heritage preservation is more than protecting structures,” said Gemalin Batino, chairperson of KCSD. “It’s about keeping the stories alive and making sure younger generations understand why places like the Cuartel matter.”

Gemalin Batino-Diaz, Chairperson of KCSD Inc.

Day two featured dramatized portrayals at the Cuartel grounds, where cultural performances showcased local history such as sugar milling traditions, heirloom products, and agricultural practices influenced by friars. These performances offered audiences an immersive look into Santa Rosa’s cultural roots.

The celebration concluded with a Gala Night: Baile & Concierto at Paseo Premier Hotel. Attended by officials, civil society leaders, and guests from across Laguna, the program featured cultural numbers, recognitions, and a community dance.

“This celebration is not only about looking back at our history,” Batino said. “It’s also about reaffirming our mission to continue protecting Santa Rosa’s heritage.”

Founded in 2000 and officially registered with the SEC, KCSD has long advocated for the Cuartel’s preservation through education, partnerships, and cultural programming.

Engineer John Bosco Batino-Diaz, President of Kilusan Cuartel de Santo Domingo, Inc.

The Cuartel itself, built in the late 1800s as Spanish military barracks, is one of the country’s few surviving examples of colonial military architecture. It later served as a police station, detention facility, and heritage site. It was recognized as a National Historical Landmark by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines on July 21, 2005.

Today, the Cuartel stands as a living reminder of Santa Rosa’s rich history, showcasing what communities can accomplish when they actively honor their heritage.

Halo-Halo Ecologies Online Book Launch with Mama Sita’s Foundation

On October 4, 2025, editors Alyssa Paredes and Marvin Joseph F. Montefrio held their virtual book launch of Halo Halo Ecologies: The Emergent Environments behind Filipino Food, with Mama Sita’s Foundation and University of Hawaii Press.

Alyssa and Marvin were joined by their co-authors Ma. Katrina Beatrice David Jacinto, Orven Mallari, Anthony D. Medrano, Dana Collins, Adrian De Leon, Nicolo Paolo P. Ludovice, Inigo Acosta, Jose Kervin Cesar B. Calabias, Jessie Varquez, Maria Carinnes Alejandria, Anacorita O. Abasolo, Ezekiel Sales, Cla D. Ruzol, Thea Kersti C. Tandog, Mary Jill Ira A. Banta, and Tami Alvarez. Also in attendance as their panel were Ms. Felice Sta. Maria, Chef Giney Villar, and Mr. Paolo Paculan to share their comments and insights on Halo Halo Ecologies, with Dr. Pia Arboleda moderating the entire session.

Halo Halo Ecologies is a multi-layered gastro-ecological discourse book on Filipino food. The editors used halo-halo, the beloved Filipino dessert, as a metaphor to contextualize cultural identity, complex foodscapes, and Philippine ecosystems. As such, paving way for timely efforts to set a new, but foundational standard in Philippine, Filipino/Filipinx, and food studies.

The contributors attempt to reframe readers’ perspectives—challenging one to “reimagine what, how, and why we eat.” The book underscores the adverse impacts of food that touch upon livelihoods, environments, public works, technoscience, culture, socio-politics, and more. These tackle how typical fast food meals and sari-sari stores relate to scavenging practices of Manila informal settlers and agroecological practices of Indigenous Lumad schools; how fruit and vegetable farmers suffer the repercussion from agrochemical effects; how communities wage efforts against increasing threats to landscapes and coastal areas; how Filipinos are entrapped in cycles of debt and poverty; and how the diaspora has continually faced the invisibilized ecologies.

Ms. Felice Sta. Maria commended the contributors’ efforts in emphasizing food’s inextricably link to culture, politics, and ecologies. She highlights the need for more critical and nuanced approaches to culinary writing—stating that “literary terms and political terms together along with ecological terms can add clarity to today’s food writers’ opinions.” As such, the anthology urges readers to rethink food systems as tools not only for nourishment but also liberation.

Alyssa & Marvin with Halo Halo Ecologies Book.

Chef Giney Villar highlighted that “society instills their resistance to social disposability…no one is disposable,” demonstrating Filipinos’ spirit of bayanihan. She applauds the book’s reimagined formats and languages that can inspire diverse people to explore the anthology in different forms for widespread awareness whether comics, podcasts, curricula, etc. Ultimately, she asks that while “food is a conveyor of culture, what kind of culture are we fostering?”

Mr. Paolo Paculan drew parallels between Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere and Halo-Halo Ecologies, describing Noli as a “time capsule” that reveals life at the margins. Alike, Halo-Halo Ecologies empowers marginalized communities—representing the unheard voices, restoring their stories and emphasizing the Philippines’ ongoing social and ecological challenges.

Halo-Halo Ecologies: The Emergent Environments behind Filipino Food sheds light on the complex cultural, ecological, and social issues of Filipino food. It hopes to inspire readers to contribute, in their own way, to food systems that are more sustainable and just. To support this mission, the anthology is available in print edition through Amazon and the University of Hawaii Press.

Raul Isidro Headlines One-Man Show and Book Launch at ManilART 2025 under Life ‘n Arts Gallery

Life ‘n Arts Gallery proudly presents a special one-man show and book launch featuring the works of renowned Filipino artist Raul Isidro at ManilART 2025, running from October 15 to 19, 2025, at the SMX Convention Center Aura, Taguig City. The highlight of the exhibition is the launch of the art book Soulscape of a Gilded Passion, written by Sherwin Paul Gonzales and produced by Lerma Julian of Life ‘n Arts Gallery. According to Julian, the project aims to honor and document the remarkable artistic journey of Raul Isidro, a living master whose lifelong dedication and evolving vision have shaped Philippine abstraction for more than five decades.

Born in Calbayog City, Samar, in 1943, Raul G. Isidro stands among the most respected names in modern Philippine art. A graduate of the University of Santo Tomas College of Fine Arts, he pursued further studies in painting at the Philippine Women’s University and later took an advanced art course at Sonoma Community College in California. Before devoting himself entirely to painting, Isidro worked in advertising and sales, balancing work and study as he developed his artistic voice. His story of discipline and quiet persistence continues to inspire generations of artists. He eventually became a full-time artist and teacher, serving as dean of Fine Arts at PWU and later president of both the Art Association of the Philippines and the Philippine Association of Printmakers.

Through decades of exploration, Isidro has developed a distinct visual language that reflects both his mastery of abstraction and his deep connection to nature. His paintings often capture the movement of light, water, and land in forms that blend emotion with structure. Each work reveals his contemplative approach to artmaking, where color and texture are harmonized to express peace, passion, and the timeless beauty of the natural world.

The newly launched book, Soulscape of a Gilded Passion, delves deeply into the life and creative evolution of Raul Isidro. Written by Sherwin Paul Gonzales, it presents not only a collection of his artworks but also a narrative of his artistic growth, philosophies, and influence in the Philippine art scene. Through essays, photographs, and reflections, the book offers an intimate look at the artist’s journey — from his early years of experimentation to his established position as one of the country’s foremost abstractionists. It is both a tribute and an archive, celebrating a life devoted to art, innovation, and purpose.

This year’s ManilART 2025, themed “Across Forms, Beyond Borders,” provides the perfect stage for Isidro’s new milestone. The annual national art fair, co-presented by the ManilART Foundation and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), is part of the official Museums and Galleries Month celebration and remains the country’s premier platform for showcasing Filipino artistry to a global audience. With its theme “Across Forms, Beyond Borders,” ManilArt 2025 underscores the dynamic intersections of art, culture, and community, a vision that mirrors Isidro’s own philosophy of transcending limits through creativity.

The launch of Soulscape of a Gilded Passion at ManilART 2025 is more than an exhibition; it is a celebration of passion, legacy, and the Filipino artistic spirit. Through this collaboration, Life ‘n Arts Gallery continues its commitment to honoring the masters and fostering a deeper appreciation of the arts, reminding audiences that the journey of an artist, like that of Raul Isidro, is itself a work of art, constantly unfolding and ever inspired.

12 ManilART Exhibits to catch this Museums and Galleries Month

ManilART, the Philippines’ national art fair, returns for its 17th edition from October 15 to 19, 2025 at the SMX Aura Convention Center, Taguig City.

Following the theme “Across Forms, Beyond Borders,” this year’s fair celebrates the cyclical nature of inspiration and how creativity transcends categories; from painting and sculpture to fashion, functional art, design, and cuisine.

Here’s a preview of some of the highlights and special shows to look forward to at this year’s edition of The National Art Fair and partner events.

  1. A Luminous Collection by Gallery Nine

ManilART Booth A1

A Luminous Collection presents a convergence of visual art, fashion, jewelry, and functional design. This interdisciplinary showcase highlights how artistry transcends form, where brushstrokes, textiles, metals, and craftsmanship intertwine to create a cohesive narrative of Filipino creativity.

Prints of Patis Tesoro.

Headlining the collection are couture master Patis Tesoro, national art figure Romulo Galicano, and painter Bullet Dematera, alongside jewelry by Ramon Orlina, Helena Alegre, Maria Magdamit, Faico and Knoi Esmane of Hoseki and more. Bayo Atelier interprets works from a collaboration of Patis Tesoro and Francis Dravigny, Anna Orlina, Bea Policarpio and Anouck Tantoco. Completing the tableau are contributions from the country’s foremost sculptors from the Annual Sculpture Review, textile and fabric artists, and creators of fine furniture and wearable art pieces.

  1. Galerie du Soleil’s Reframing of the American Award-winning Gummy Bear

ManilART Booth B6

Galerie du Soleil highlights two solo artists: Ed Coronel with Reframing the Gummy Bear and Nelson Ricahuerta with a monumental piece entitled Pahina.

Winner of the American Art Awards in 2020 and 2022, Coronel reimagines the playful form of the gummy bear in radiant amber and green hues, blending whimsy with introspection. Meanwhile,  Ricahuerta’s Pahina (Page) is a large-scale meditation on narrative and memory that symbolizes the turning of creative chapters. The two works embody the spirit of innovation and the dialogue between heritage and contemporary expression that define ManilART.

  1. The Artologist Gallery: Vision and Grace

ManilART Booths C2, C3 and C7

The Artologist Gallery presents a dynamic trio of exhibitions featuring Pandy Aviado, Joemarie Sanclaria, and Monnar, each exploring memory, movement, and creative endurance through their distinct visual languages.

Pandy Aviado’s Persistence of Vision reflects on memory, motion, and the endurance of sight. His layered works translate the rhythm of the city into image, transforming scaffolding and steel into metaphors for progress and persistence. Through painting and print, Aviado’s exhibition stands as a meditation on Filipino visual memory and the quiet labor of creation.

Joemarie Sanclaria’s Flurries of Grace draws from childhood memories of winnowing rice, translating the movement of grain and sunlight into metaphors for nurturing, catharsis, and renewal. His works capture the tenderness of maternal love and the universal act of giving and receiving grace.

Monnar’s Finding Picasso reinterprets the legacy of Pablo Picasso through bright pastels, deliberate penwork, and expressive abstraction. His works bridge classical influence with contemporary freedom, revealing a timeless dialogue between artists across eras.

Together, these exhibitions form a cohesive presentation of vision and grace, where heritage, introspection, and modernity converge.

  1. ART for Space artists ponder existence

ManilART Booth A3

To Exist in This Eclipse: Art for Space brings together the works of Demi Padua, Reyna Raymunda, Joshua Torres, Ezekiel Fajardo, Jane Cuevas, Baltek, Ali Alejandro, and Yao Sampana in a compelling reflection on resilience amid uncertain times. Through visions of a world poised between decay and renewal, the artists explore humanity’s shifting relationship with technology, nature, and hope. From Cuevas’s organic-mechanical hybrids and Alejandro’s futuristic imaginings, to Padua’s symbolic dolls and Fajardo’s purple-hued meditations on wisdom and aspiration, each piece offers a glimpse of light within eclipse. Baltek’svintage cartoon-inspired figures and Sampana’s affirmations of love and endurance further underscore the theme of courage and creativity flourishing even in shadow—affirming that, though the sun may be obscured, art continues to shine.

  1. Synergy of the Traditional and Modern at Art Corner

ManilART Booth E7

Art Corner presents Synergy: A Collective Unveiling of Filipino Expressions, featuring six distinguished artists: Renee Avila, Binong Javier, Ejem Alarcon, Norlie Meimban, Jane Ebarle, and John Perry Pellejera. The exhibition celebrates the diversity and dynamism of Filipino creativity, uniting classical, pointillist, abstract, surreal, and contemporary styles into a rich and cohesive dialogue. Synergy emphasizes how traditional and modern sensibilities meet, championing artists who reflect the vitality and soul of the Filipino creative spirit.

  1. Alab Pagarigan defies dimension with Artes Orientes

ManilART Booth B2

Alab Pagarigan’s fascination with line and form has evolved into sculptural works that capture both lightness and depth. Known for his life-sized wire sculptures that reach out of their two dimensional frame exploring human vulnerability, Pagarigan’s art conveys a sense of fragility and grace.

Alab Pagarigan, A Breath of Sunrise, H-38, L-24, D-15 in, Copper Wire, Epoxy Resin on a Metal Frame.

For ManilART’25, he unveils seven new sculptures—four wall-bound and three free-standing—that blur the boundaries between figuration and abstraction. By integrating diverse materials that complement his conceptual vision, Pagarigan continues to push the potential of wire as a medium, bridging structure, space, and soul.

  1. San Pablo Art Circuit (SaPAC): A Regional Artstravaganza

10 Venues in and around San Pablo City the whole month of October

ManilART’25 partners with the inaugural San Pablo Art Circuit (SaPAC), an initiative uniting artistic and cultural venues in and around San Pablo City to celebrate the region’s natural and built heritage. Ten venues have joined forces to present a month-long Artstravaganza this October, featuring local visual artists, artisans, and traditions in vibrant conversation with the city’s historic character.

Participating venues include The Art Barn at Casa San Pablo, Art Corridor, Color Commune at Sining Labuyo, Fule-Malvar Heritage Mansion, The Lake House, Paraiso de Avedad Gallery, Studio 88, Sulyap Café Gallery & Museum, Verbena Gallery of Patis Tesoro, and the Villa Escudero Museum.

Launched on October 4 and 5, the circuit runs throughout the month in conjunction with Museums and Galleries Month, highlighting how regional collaboration continues to expand the reach of the Philippine art community.

  1. LAMBANA – Angono Women Artists’ Collective at Angkla

Angkla Art Gallery, Angono Rizal

At Angkla Art Gallery in Angono, Rizal, the LAMBANA: Angono Women Artists’ Collective takes flight as part of ManilART’25’s satellite exhibitions. Opening on October 8 and running until October 31, 2025, this exhibit marks the debut of Angono and the region’s first all-women artists’ collective in the national art scene.

Inspired by local folklore, Lambana—the Tagalog word for fairy—evokes the mythical winged beings said to reveal themselves only to those with pure hearts. Formed in March 2020 during Women’s Month, the collective unites women from Angono’s leading art groups, galleries, and museums with a shared mission to empower women and children through art while preserving and enriching the cultural legacy of the “Art Capital of the Philippines.”

Their works range from figurative to abstract, traditional to experimental, embodying both heritage and innovation. Through Lambana, the collective reimagines Angono’s myths and affirms that women’s perspectives are essential in shaping the nation’s creative future.

  1. Rojo Galerie: Urban Fireflies by Erwin Mallari

ManilART Booth D2

Rojo Galerie showcases Erwin Mallari in Urban Fireflies, a watercolor collection that captures the poetic and transient beauty of the city after dusk. Known for his masterful use of light and composition, Mallari transforms Metro Manila’s streets into luminous nocturnes, where the reflections of car lights resemble dancing fireflies in the urban night.

Rojo Galerie is an artist-centric platform dedicated to emerging and established voices.

10 .Rhythm of Nature with VAM International

ManilART Booth E4

Singapore-based VAM International Art Gallery presents Rhythm of Nature, featuring contemporary sculptor Patrick H. C. Naval and master painter-printmaker Fil Delacruz. Naval, trained in architecture, creates stainless steel sculptures with clean lines and reflective surfaces that explore motion, balance, and spatial harmony.

Fil Delacruz, CCP Thirteen Artists Award honoree, is celebrated for his painting and printmaking practice, international exhibitions, and long service as an educator and leader in Philippine printmaking. Recent distinctions include the Distinguished Thomasian Alumni Award and Outstanding UST Atelier Alumni Honors, with current participation in international art camps in Nepal and Vietnam.

Together, Naval and Delacruz trace a dialogue between structure and spirit, aligning with ManilART’25’s theme by revealing how inspiration moves across forms and practices.

  1. Heritage Cuisine Special Exhibit: The Art of the Table

ManilART Lounge, SMX Convention Center, Taguig

Expanding the dialogue between visual art and culinary heritage, CocoKusina: The Philippine Coconut Kitchen presents Heritage Cuisine, a “tablescape” fine dining collaboration uniting artists and artisans across disciplines. The experience features mana-pulutan creations by Chef Riza Matibag Muyot, inspired by Filipino tapas made from local and artisanal ingredients, served on a tableau of functional art and design.

This immersive presentation brings together potter and designer Ugu Bigyan, sculptor Danny Rayos del Sol, and wood artist Agi Pagkatipunan, transforming the dining experience into a sensory exhibition where cuisine, ceramics, and sculpture come together. Heritage Cuisine celebrates the Filipino table as a living canvas, highlighting craftsmanship, sustainability, and cultural storytelling through food and form.

  1. Museo Orlina goes Steampunk

Reflections Gallery, Museo Orlina, Tagaytay

Museo Orlina presents Steampunk: Filipino Artistry Meets Industrial Fantasy. Originating as a literary sub-genre of science fiction, steampunk draws inspiration from 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery and Victorian aesthetics. In visual arts, it is recognized through mechanical motifs, gears, pipes, cogs, and anachronistic designs—fusing the old-world charm of the past with futuristic imagination. When translated into sculpture, steampunk art often takes form in metalworks, assemblages, and inventive hybrids that reimagine technology as both functional and fantastical, embodying a playful dialogue between history and speculative invention.

Eskultura IV: Steampunk is a group exhibition of eight distinguished sculptors who explore the steampunk language through their own preferred mediums. Featured artists are Agi Pagkatipunan, Darwin Guevarra, James Dayrit, Jinggoy Salcedo, Otto Neri, Ram Mallari Jr., Richard Buxani, Ronwaldo Dasal.
