Going on a weekend staycation with family is a chance to experience new things, create memories, and strengthen bonds. Our recent staycation at Taal Vista Hotel was exceptional. It was a perfect escape from the stress of everyday life to relax and recharge.

The hotel is known for its breathtaking views, cool mountain air, great food, and impressive amenities. Then and now, Taal Vista remains a national landmark deeply ingrained in the history and heritage of the popular tourist destination, Tagaytay City.

The premier room where we stayed was spacious and squeaky clean. It offers the most spectacular panoramic view of Taal Volcano and Taal Lake amid a verdant landscape.

Great food, happy mood

Food makes us feel good while feasting on the mouth-watering dishes for lunch and breakfast at Verdana. It offers a Filipino-Continental buffet and a live cultural show by the Bughaw Folkloric Dance Group during the lunch buffet every Saturday and Sunday. It was satisfying for our tummies and eyes!

My favorites from the lunch buffet were maki rolls, ginataang alimasag at gulay, laing rice, rellenong bangus, pancit, fresh salad and fruits, Filipino delicacies, and halo-halo. For breakfast meals, I enjoyed coffee, fresh fruits, fried rice and danggit, chicken tocino, and champorado.

We also cherished our time at the lobby lounge for snacks. We tried their hot chocolate and Americano coffee paired with delicious cakes and pastries. It helped us unwind and feel relaxed while we listened to piano music in the background. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the chance to experience a glam picnic that day due to the rain.

For our dinner, we relished the sumptuous pasta dishes at Taza restaurant. Taza is the Arabic word for fresh. We ordered pasta dishes such as Duck and Mushroom Lasagna, Fettucine Alfredo, and Pappardelle Primavera, which were rich, flavorful, and gratifying! We were also given a delectable chocolate cake for dessert.

Hospitable staff, going the extra mile

We appreciate the warmth and friendliness of its staff, especially for my hubby with a diet restriction. The chefs made an effort to prepare vegetarian dishes just for him! Special mention to Chef Ralph of Taza and Chef Kim of Veranda!

To digest what we ate, we toured the hotel’s other facilities – the swimming pool, the gym, the spa, Kultura Butik, and The Ridge, and made a side trip to Skyranch. For staying hotel guests would need only to pay 100 per person to pass through the gate from the lake wing to enter the amusement park.

It was a delightful stay for me and my small family – from the accommodation, food, service, and overall experience.

 Magnificent views, history, and nostalgia

The charm of Taal Vista Hotel lies in its stunning views that continue to capture guests after several decades.

The Ridge is a viewing deck that offers one of the most spectacular views of Taal Volcano and Taal Lake. It also provides a panoramic scenery of Volcano Island, its surrounding Taal Lake, and the Tagaytay Ridge. Also visible are lakeside communities of Batangas Province including Cuenca, Lipa, Mataas na Kahoy, and Tanauan. On a clear day, Balayan Bay is visible on the far right.

In the 1960s, Taal Vista Lodge became a popular destination among foreign dignitaries. Some of the past distinguished guests were Crown Prince Akihito and his wife Princess Michiko of Japan, former First Lady Imelda Marcos, and five First Ladies of heads of state who attended the Manila Summit Conference, among others. In 2003, Taal Vista Lodge became Taal Vista Hotel.

The property has surmounted unprecedented challenges in the past decades. While reading its history timeline wall indicates that “In the process, it has affirmed its status as an icon in Philippine tourism – a timeless property known not only for offering a majestic view of Taal Volcano but more importantly, for leaving its guests nostalgic with treasured memories of the past.”

Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod’s Art Cove Mounts an Inspiring Art Exhibit on Mental Health

The importance of mental health regardless of age cannot be undermined. With summer kicking-in, students who are on vacation from school have less to do. As such, they should have productive activities to keep them busy and constantly hone their minds to prevent them from getting bored. Licensed psychologist Heather Lyons, Ph.D. points out that “prolonged stretches of boredom can lead to higher stress levels. Chronic boredom can increase your risk factors for mental health issues, leading to negative thinking patterns, impulsivity, and self-destructive behaviors.”

The Tales of the Psyche: Navigating Our Mental Odyssey is the newest exhibit at the Art Cove, Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod’s built-in art space. This is the eighth installation of the gallery, featuring the works of Ms. Sheila Marie Basio, marking her third solo exhibition. Ms. Basio hails from the city of Escalante, Negros Occidental. She is a retired teacher, meditator, yogini, and an active mindfulness advocate. Her works represent her battles with mental illness, self-empowerment, and choosing life over defeat. “Art has always been a medium for expression, and through these works, I have attempted to capture the complexities, struggles, and triumphs associated with mental health. Each piece tells a story—sometimes of despair, sometimes of hope, but always of resilience,” said Ms. Basio.

Her artworks address mental health as a topic that touches everyone, whether directly or indirectly, and she hopes this exhibition sparks conversations, evokes empathy, and offers solace to those who might be struggling in silence.

“Here at Art Cove, we consider ourselves privileged to host such a profound and timely exhibit. In an age where the importance of mental health cannot be overstated, through Ms. Sheila’s art, we are encouraged to appreciate beauty and embrace the full range of our shared human experience,” said Archie Javellana, Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod’s Rooms Division Manager.

Palo Alto Networks’ recent research revealed manufacturing as the most targeted industry for ransomware attacks in ASEAN, primarily due to limited system visibility and inadequate network monitoring. Additionally, 70.6% of these organizations are concerned with AI-enabled attacks.

 In a briefing with local press members, Assistant Secretary Julius Gorospe, CIO of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), who was also present at the event today, elaborated on how DSWD is safeguarding its digital infrastructure with AI-powered solutions as part of its Digital Transformation (DX) initiative.

DSWD faced security challenges with fragmented cybersecurity measures, server outages leading to operational disruption, and absence of comprehensive incident response playbooks. These issues expanded the attack surface for DSWD, having limited visibility in assessing suspicious network activities and increasing the risk of data breaches due to slower incident response times and inadequate planning.

Partnering with Palo Alto Networks, DSWD leveraged its Unit 42 Incident Response (IR) services to evolve its cybersecurity posture and proactively prevent future threats. The organization also leveraged Palo Alto Networks’ AI-driven solutions like Cortex XSIAM and Cortex XDR to enhance protection and efficiency, and empower its security operations to effectively combat threats.
