Okada Manila Deepens Its Commitment to Sustainability Across Retail Operations

The Forbes 5-star integrated resort Okada Manila continues to advance its sustainability agenda by strengthening the responsible practices already embedded across its operations—from how spaces are designed to how guests engage with everyday experiences. Guided by Okada Green Heart (OGH), the resort’s sustainability program, these ongoing efforts focus on making environmental responsibility and community support visible, practical, and consistent throughout the property.

Across its retail areas, Okada Manila brings these principles to life through thoughtful design choices and operational decisions that prioritize efficiency, accessibility, and long-term impact. Visual enhancements, improved layouts, and sustainability-led updates are being rolled out to ensure that retail environments support both guest experience and responsibility, in line with the Energy Efficiency and Talent and Community pillars of Okada Green Heart.

Across its retail areas, Okada Manila brings these principles to life through thoughtful design choices and operational decisions that prioritize efficiency, accessibility, and long-term impact.

A clear example of this approach is the recent refresh of The Gift Boutique. The space was redesigned to improve flow, product visibility, and ease of discovery—bringing Okada Manila-branded merchandise and curated consignment items together in a more organized retail setting. As part of the update, the resort installed energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the store and further reduced the use of single-use plastics by transitioning to eco-friendlier packaging options.

Okada Manila continues to advance its sustainability agenda by strengthening the responsible practices already embedded across its operations.

Integrated within the refreshed boutique is the Okada Green Heart Corner, a permanent retail feature introduced in the last quarter of 2025. The corner showcases products developed in partnership with non-government organizations and community-based enterprises, supporting ethical livelihoods and community development through everyday gifting. The selection includes locally made treats from Manila Cookie Story, handcrafted accessories by Fresh Hope—created by women supported through livelihood and skills development programs—and culturally inspired souvenirs from Aciapak, which highlights Filipino identity through locally themed designs. By placing these products in a central retail space, Okada Manila expands the reach of its partners and creates sustained opportunities beyond limited campaigns.

According to Alvaro Ramos, Assistant Vice President, Retail, Leasing/Retail, the emphasis is on consistency across all guest touchpoints. “We look at sustainability as part of how we operate every day, not as a separate initiative,” he said. “Whether it’s how our retail spaces are designed, the products we carry, or the partners we support, our goal is to make responsible choices visible and easy for our guests.”

Integrated within the newly-renovated The Gift Boutique is the Okada Green Heart Corner, a permanent retail feature introduced in the last quarter of 2025. It showcases products developed in partnership with non-government organizations and community-based enterprises.

Beyond retail, Okada Manila continues to strengthen sustainability initiatives across the resort under Okada Green Heart. These include water stewardship through Nordaq Water, which significantly reduces single-use plastic bottles; the installation of electric vehicle charging stations to support energy-efficient mobility; and waste-reduction programs such as Soap for Hope and Linen for Life, which repurpose hotel amenities and linens to support community needs. The resort also continues to advance responsible dining through plant-forward menu initiatives that promote sustainable sourcing and resource efficiency.

Together, these efforts reflect Okada Manila’s ongoing commitment to embedding sustainability into daily operations—across spaces, teams, and guest experiences.

Holiday Inn and Suites Makati proudly announce its grand relaunch, unveiling a newly renovated hotel designed to offer a more modern, engaging, and sustainable guest experience. Guided by the theme “Refreshed. Redefined. Reimagined,” the transformation reflects the brand’s commitment to innovation, connection, and responsible hospitality

Over the past months, the hotel has thoughtfully reimagined, redefined, and refreshed its spaces to reflect a more modern, welcoming, and connected Holiday Inn experience. At the heart of this transformation is the open lobby concept—designed to create seamless interaction, flexibility, and comfort. It is a space where guests can work, relax, meet, dine, or simply connect, all within one vibrant and open environment.

Standard Twin Beds.

The hotel is proud to introduce enhanced features that give it a fresh and contemporary feel. These include e-working spaces and a media lounge, designed for today’s modern traveler, as well as a day-to-night bar that encourages effortless transitions from productivity to relaxation. These open and fluid spaces are thoughtfully designed to foster genuine connections and meaningful experiences.

Beyond the lobby, new spaces further enrich the overall guest experience. Families can now enjoy the Kids’ Play Area, while guests looking to unwind can relax at the Oz Pool Bar, offering a refreshing and laid-back atmosphere. For dining, Flavors Restaurant’s Al Fresco area provides an enhanced and relaxed experience, allowing guests to enjoy modern comfort cuisine in an open and inviting setting. In the coming months, the hotel is also set to introduce pet-friendly rooms, extending its hospitality to guests who travel with their furry companions.

Management Team of HISM.

Sustainability remains a key pillar of the hotel’s transformation. Holiday Inn & Suites Makati is proud to share that it has received both the EDGE Advanced Certification and the prestigious EDGE Zero Carbon Certification, the highest level of green building recognition under the EDGE program.

Behind the refreshed design and modern comfort is a deeper commitment—one that goes beyond aesthetics.

At Holiday Inn & Suites Makati, the transformation was guided not only by style and functionality, but by purpose. Through IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow, the hotel has implemented LED lighting, renewable energy solutions, solar panels, and efficient water systems, among other initiatives. These efforts significantly reduce energy use, conserve water, and lower carbon footprint—because caring for guests also means caring for the environment and the community.

“More than just a renovation, this relaunch is a reflection of who we are and what we believe in,” said Andy Belmonte, General Manager of Holiday Inn and Suites Makati. “We wanted to create a space that feels welcoming, inspiring, and responsible—where guests can feel good about their stay, not just because of the comfort, but because they know they are part of something that cares for people and the planet. Cebu Launches MICE Guidebook at ASEAN Tourism Forum Showcasing Readiness for Purpose-Driven Global Events

Cebu, Philippines — Cebu reinforced its growing stature as a leading meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) destination in Southeast Asia with the official launch of the Cebu MICE Guidebook during the ASEAN Tourism Forum’s Travel Exchange (TRAVEX), held at the Mactan Expo in Mactan Newtown.

The guidebook was unveiled at a pivotal moment, coinciding with one of the region’s most influential tourism gatherings, attended by delegates from different ASEAN countries, senior government leaders, and industry decision-makers.

Designed as a strategic resource for international event planners, associations, and corporate organizers, the Cebu MICE Guidebook presents a comprehensive overview of the destination’s ability to host meetings that bring together diverse communities, ideas, and shared purpose.

The guidebook is the product of a collaborative effort motivated by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry and its industry leaders, who have long championed initiatives positioning the province as both a tourism and business hub. Developed through close coordination between private-sector stakeholders and public agencies, the project was conceived for Cebu Business Month 2025 and further refined for its official release at the ASEAN Tourism Forum. It features close to 300 establishments and service providers across key MICE service pillars, including hotels, venues, transportation providers, professional conference organizers, and event suppliers.

Tourism stakeholders and officers of the Cebu M.I.C.E. Alliance (CMA) with Department of Tourism Assistant Secretary Sharlene Batin; Art Boncato Jr., Group General Manager of MHR; Cleofe Albiso, President of the Cebu MICE Alliance and Managing Director of MHR; Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco of the Department of Tourism; Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles, Chief Operating Officer of the Tourism Promotions Board; Avinash Menon, Cluster General Manager for Cebu, Iloilo, and Bacolod of MHR; and Josef Chiongbian, General Manager of Savoy Hotel Mactan.

Cebu’s fundamentals further support this momentum. With over 20,000 guest rooms and accommodation options available daily, a growing portfolio of venues, and an established mix of dining, retail, and lifestyle experiences, the destination is equipped to host events of varying scale and complexity while delivering memorable delegate experiences beyond the meeting room.

For Cleofe Albiso, President of the Cebu MICE Alliance and Managing Director of Megaworld Hotels & Resorts, the guidebook reflects Cebu’s broader aspiration to host events with meaning and long-term value.

“As an alliance, our goal is to bridge the world with what Cebu has to offer—efficient event solutions, creative talent, and trusted local partnerships,” Albiso said. “More than a destination, Cebu invites the global community to engage with its people, culture, and purpose, creating opportunities for inclusive and sustainable growth.”

The launch of the Cebu MICE Guidebook signals Cebu’s steady evolution into a future-ready MICE destination, anchored on collaboration, service excellence, and community engagement. As the global meetings industry increasingly prioritizes intentional, values-driven gatherings, Cebu positions itself as a destination prepared to host events that create impact—both for delegates and for the communities that welcome them.

Meet the Floral Expert Transforming Solaire Resort North

Walk through the grand lobby of Solaire Resort North and you’ll notice it immediately—an unmistakable sense of calm, elegance, and vibrance. Every petal, every stem, every flourish of greenery feels intentional, composed, and artfully placed. These landscapes and floral signatures don’t appear by chance. They are living expressions of the woman who envisioned them: Anna Fay Rosal, Florist Manager of Solaire Resort North.

With over 20 years of experience in floral event styling, seasonal décor, and luxury hospitality, Anna Fay brings a cultivated eye and deeply personal touch to every corner of the resort. Her philosophy is simple yet profound. Flowers are not merely decorations; they are stories of place, memory, and emotion.

“There is always a way to make people feel something through flowers,” she often says. And at Solaire Resort North, she does just that, every single day.

An Architect of Beauty, Literally

Before entering the world of luxury florals, Anna Fay studied Architecture at the University of Santo Tomas, one of the country’s most esteemed design institutions. That foundation shaped her approach to floral design with a profound understanding of space, structure, proportion, and flow. To her, arrangements must not only look stunning—they must belong.

Before coming to Solaire Resort North, she spent two decades honing her craft in the luxury hotel industry. She refined her skills, successfully designing, executing, and managing décor for grand seasonal installations, hotel promotions, intimate celebrations, and major social events while leading a team of florists, gardeners, and decorators.

From sourcing exquisite florals to collaborating with engineers and contractors on large-scale installations, she mastered the unique balance of imagination, budget, quality, and execution that the hospitality industry requires.

Cultivating Experiences at Solaire Resort North

Today, Anna Fay lends her expertise to Solaire Resort North, creating a visual language that reflects the resort’s spirit. Warm yet modern, opulent but never intimidating. In her craft, she builds upon the belief that flowers are what breathe life into each space. Each decision she makes for her floral arrangements aims to enhance and blend with the art pieces they accompany.

“I consider the interior and its palette to enhance them with the flowers,” she says. From colors to artistic detail, she brings unity to the property through the balance and harmony her flowers introduce.

Anna Fay Rosal, Florist Manager.

Together with her talented team, she transforms spaces through floral arrangements, indoor landscapes, seasonal décor, and event styling, ensuring that every guest, from the lobby to the restaurants to the different floors, feels welcomed and inspired.

Step into the property on any given day and you’ll find thoughtfully curated vignettes. Fresh roses that change with the week’s palette, orchids suspended like jewelry, tropical greens celebrating Filipino heritage, or whimsical installations that mark upcoming holidays.

Her team works quietly and diligently, often before dawn, refreshing arrangements, so guests encounter beauty at its peak. It is hospitality expressed through nature, alive, breathing, and ever-changing.

Crafting Florals Worth Taking Home

For guests who want a piece of her artistry beyond the resort, Anna Fay and the Floral Team at Solaire Resort North now offer personalized floral arrangements, available exclusively at Solaire Boutique inside the property. Whether for a celebration, a thoughtful gift, a corporate gesture, or simply a beautiful addition to the home, each bouquet is designed with the same intention and refinement as seen throughout the resort.

SM Hotels’ Park Inn by Radisson Clark Earns DOE Recognition for Technology-Driven Energy Efficiency Innovation

Park Inn by Radisson Clark, SM Hotels & Conventions Corporation’s (SMHCC) renowned property in Central Luzon, has been conferred a Special Award for Innovative Use of Technology at the 5th Energy Efficiency Excellence Awards organized by the Department of Energy (DOE). This distinction underscores the hotel’s exemplary Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) initiatives and its successful adoption of advanced systems that deliver measurable energy savings and environmental benefits.

The award recognizes the hotel’s success in reducing energy consumption while maintaining a comfortable and enjoyable experience for guests. Through the use of a smart system design and shared cooling infrastructure, Park Inn by Radisson Clark has demonstrated how innovation can support both environmental goals and operational efficiency.

Particularly, one of the key initiatives behind the recognition is the hotel’s use of an offsite cooling system that supplies chilled water from a nearby central plant. This approach allows the hotel to operate efficiently without its own chiller equipment, resulting in lower energy use, stable indoor temperatures, and reliable operations with minimal maintenance requirements.

Consequently, the hotel has achieved meaningful environmental benefits by integrating energy-efficient cooling components such as constant flow valves into its air-conditioning system. These improvements generate an annual energy savings of over 240,000 kilowatt-hours, helping prevent approximately 174 metric tons of carbon emissionseach year.

“This award reflects our commitment to integrating sustainability into the core of our developments,” said SMHCC Senior Vice President for Project Management and Technical Support Services Mr. Eric Uy. “The success of Park Inn by Radisson Clark illustrates that leveraging on shared infrastructure and modern technology can produce tangible energy savings, measurable operational efficiency, and long-term environmental value for the hospitality industry. At the onset, Park Inn by Radisson Clark was built with these in mind. The property was not just retrofitted for the sake of the award,” Mr. Uy added.

These reductions significantly contribute to SMHCC’s Road to Net Zero by 2040, positioning Park Inn by Radisson Clark as a model for energy-efficient hotel operations in the Philippines.
