A Journey of Discovery and Adventure

This week, over 200 guests from the Philippines, Hong Kong and beyond were treated to a preview of a movie documentary, “Banwa Private Island – A Two Part Adventure,” filmed on location and produced by Asian Air Safari.

Banwa Private Island is the gateway to the incredibly rich and diverse marine and land ecology in Palawan. ‘Banwa’ actually means ‘community’ in the local Palawano language and the Tagbanwa people are considered guardians of the region’s indigenous nature. Proceeds from the island directly contribute to educational and infrastructure projects in the area through its Aquos Foundation whose ethos is to support, nurture and protect the island’s unique biodiversity.

The documentary highlights how guests are coming from around the world to explore the culture, history and ecology of this unique region.  A truly private island with just 6 beautiful villas, guests enjoy un-paralleled hospitality from the Banwa Private Island team whilst being entranced by the nature, wildlife, beaches and stunning turquoise water in this mosquito free environment.  Within just a 20-minute radius, there are an array of activities including snorkeling, diving, hiking, an underground river, waterfalls and unique wildlife indigenous to the area.

Captain Joy & Richard Beattie (center) flanked by Banwa Private Island and Asian Air Safari teams.

The documentary was produced by the enigmatic and humbling Captain Joy Roa, CEO of Asian Air Safari, who commented:  “I was given a beautiful opportunity to visit this incredible island with its rich bio-diversity, right in our own backyard in the Philippines. Flying with the helicopter for only two hours from Manila allowed me to see this private world – a distinctive combination of luxurious pampering and hospitality, wildlife encounters, and authentic, meaningful interactions with the local community. Experiencing it all first-hand makes me proud that an award-winning, world-class property like Banwa Private Island can be found in the Philippines, because it defines what positive, impactful travel should be.”

Banwa Private Island is the vision of Richard Beattie who has been exploring the region for over 20 years and cannot escape the charm and lure of these islands.  Richard commented, “We are so grateful to Captain Joy and his brilliant team for this incredible documentary.  It enables people to have an insight into the sounds, smells, culture and scenery of this almost unknown region and Captain Joy immersed himself into every aspect of what the region offers.  His generosity is unbounded, and he appears to have found quite a few future pilots for his team from the eager local school children!”

The screening was attended by an international audience made up of past island guests, those planning to visit in the future and the best of the luxury travel trade who have already booked guest visits to the island from far-away places such as Brazil, China and Europe – and perhaps surprisingly many from Manila who were previously unaware of the adventure that awaits them in Palawan.

The two-part documentary will be available for public viewing in March and a wonderful preview is available via this link.

Federal Land sets the tone for 2024, Blending Nature and Urban Lifestyle in Riverpark

In an era where the hustle and bustle of modern life often leaves people yearning for tranquility, premier real estate developer Federal Land, Inc. steps forward with a community development that goes beyond brick and mortar, but weaves a narrative of harmonious living with nature at its core.

This vision has led to the meticulous development of Riverpark, a master-planned new city that not only fulfills the desire for a unique urban lifestyle but also stands as a testament to Federal Land’s commitment to shaping dynamic communities for generations to enjoy.

New Township Amenities

Together with the General Trias, Cavite local government, Federal Land unveiled its distinctive entry signage facing the Open Canal Interchange. The new entry signage serves as a gateway to a community that prioritizes a life immersed in the beauty of nature. As the Riverpark landscape takes shape, it becomes a powerful force propelling Cavite into a future of vibrancy and prosperity.

Federal Land also opened its first community attraction. The 1.8km bike trail serves as a tangible proof of concept, designed to bring residents and guests alike together as they explore the potential of the community through its activated spaces in the heart of nature. Riverpark Trails, highly accessible via major thoroughfares, promises families the joy of cycling and the great outdoors, all within 40 minutes from Metro Manila via SLEX, MCX, or CAVITEX.

Hon. Congressman Antonio Ferrer of the 6th District of Cavite, Francisco H. Suarez (GT Capital Holdings Executive Vice President & Chief Finance Officer), Yusuke Hirano (Federal Land NRE Global Inc. Vice Chairman), Thomas F. Mirasol (Federal Land President and Chief Operating Officer), Hon. Mayor Luis ‘Jon-Jon’ Ferrer IV of General Trias, Councilor Martin Ferrer, and Hon. Vice Mayor Jonas Glyn P. Labuguen of General Trias.

The bike trail is part of a larger network of open spaces in Riverpark. The 600-ha township is set to dedicate 70-ha to parks and greenways. A Central Park serves as a green highway that seamlessly connects the north and south end of the development, as well as provide residents with plenty of space to unwind, congregate, and cultivate lasting connections. The park is planned to feature various trekking and jogging paths, lush Japanese gardens, and a bamboo forest reminiscent of the famed Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto, Japan.

Riverpark: A Blend of Nature and Urban Living

Among the developments, Yume at Riverpark stands out as the embodiment of Japanese-inspired living within this visionary community. Developed by Federal Land NRE Global Inc. (FNG), Yume seamlessly integrates into Riverpark, offering 296 lots that fuse Filipino creativity with Japanese expertise. As FNG’s inaugural project in Cavite, Yume at Riverpark introduces a unique residential experience, complementing the master-planned vision of Riverpark.

Riverpark – Artist Perspective.

Looking ahead, Riverpark’s roadmap for the next 5-10 years includes the completion of the CALAX Cavite Segment in 2024*, establishing the estate as a highly accessible next-gen city. The anticipation continues with the construction of SM City General Trias, promising convenience, and retail excellence. However, these are just the initial steps, as Riverpark envisions the future introduction of an Adventure Park, a partner school, and a church, solidifying its commitment to a vibrant, purposeful living experience.

Hong Kong Disneyland teams up with Make-A-Wish, treats critically ill kids to ‘Summer Snow Day’ at new World of Frozen

For the first time in forever, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL) teamed up with Make-A-Wish® to grant life-changing wishes at the all-new themed land World of Frozen.

Eleven  children living with critical illnesses and their families from around the world traveled to Hong Kong to visit World of Frozen and have their wishes granted. They are among approximately 130 guests traveling from local Make-A-Wish affiliates including the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan to join the Summer Snow Day Wishes Celebration.

Making wishes come true is some of the most important work that we do at Disney,” said Jill Estorino, President and Managing Director of Disney Parks International. “In fact, Disney is the largest wish-granter in the world for Make-A-Wish. Hong Kong Disneyland joined that journey when it opened in 2005, and has been bringing Disney magic to the local community and beyond ever since.”

Rhiannea wish child from the Philippines, had her wish captured by the end of 2019. She was ready to travel during early 2020 but then the pandemic hit. During the wait for travel to be safe, Make-A-Wish Philippines continued to engage with her over three years through Disney-themed care packages, a surprise birthday party, and a special invitation to the first Wish Ball to give a testimonial. Throughout the last three years, Rhianne has been bravely going through her medical treatment while patiently waiting for her wish to come true.

Rhianne (center), a wish child from the Philippines.

“This is my first visit to Hong Kong Disneyland and also my first trip abroad, which is so exciting. I can’t wait to visit World of Frozen and experience Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs,” Rhianne said.

The entire event was inspired by one child’s wish to meet the Imagineers involved with the all-new World of Frozen.

Dominic, a wish child from Singapore, was diagnosed with hemophilia seven days after birth. Despite facing an incurable condition that requires a lifetime of treatment, he remains steadfast in his pursuit of knowledge, fueled by a passion for mathematics, science, engineering, and space.

After watching the documentary “The Imagineering Story” on Disney+ during the pandemic, Dominic was deeply inspired by the Imagineers’ creativity and innovative use of technology to build Disney parks and attractions.

“While many Disneyland guests may only see what is presented, I am drawn to explore the rationale behind the scenes,” he said. “The work of Imagineers combines robotic techniques, architecture, engineering and other disciplines, turning imagination into reality through numerous trials and experiments. I am thrilled to meet them to learn more about their work.”

Jo Phoa, Director of Creative Development of Walt Disney Imagineering Hong Kong, and Angus Chan, Principal Ride Control System Engineer of Walt Disney Imagineering Hong Kong, were touched by Dominic’s thirst for knowledge and excitement about Imagineering. They designed a special exploratory tour for Dominic, guiding him through the new attraction Frozen Ever After, which utilizes state-of-the-art Audio-Animatronics technology.

Additionally, Dominic learned about the electric motion simulator system of Iron Man Experience – the first at any Disney park, and had the unique opportunity to witness the design process.

Dominic, who visited a Disney park for the first time, expressed his thrill at exploring the new World of Frozen and learning about its technology and operations. His conversations with Phoa and Chan reaffirmed his passion for science, inspiring him to become an Imagineer.

“This is a remarkable day for Make-A-Wish. For the first time ever, we are granting wishes from the Southeast Asia region at Hong Kong Disneyland,” said Dr Kevin Lau, Board Director of Make-A-Wish International. “I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Hong Kong Disneyland for inviting us to this special event celebrating the power of wishes at the kingdom of Arendelle and joining hands with Make-A-Wish in bringing hope to children from all around the world.”

To commemorate the opening of World of Frozen and the 25th anniversary of Make-A-Wish Hong Kong, the resort will donate HK$10 for every transaction made at Tick Tock Toys & Collectibles in the kingdom of Arendelle to Make-A-Wish Hong Kong from today until Jan 10, 2024. Combined with the proceeds from the recent “Wish Upon A Chocolate Cake” charity sales at the resort, HKDL plans to contribute a total of HK$600,000 to support the development of Make-A-Wish Hong Kong.

For over 40 years, Disney and Make-A-Wish have together fulfilled more than 150,000 Disney-inspired wishes around the world. The bravery, tenacity, and optimism displayed by the wish children are an inspiration for all cast members at HKDL, and the resort will continue to work with Make-A-Wish Hong Kong and other Make-A-Wish International affiliates to support the wishes of wish children living with critical illnesses and their families, creating magical memories that last a lifetime.
