Capturing millennials in growing PH gin market

With their more flexible preferences and openness to new experiences in drinking, millennials are the main market who are driving the switch to the newly launched Ginto, the barrel-aged gin from Tanduay Distillers, Inc.

Ginto is a product for today’s adventurous drinkers, and those who have tried it have commended its unique taste compared to other gin products that are either non-aged or simply flavored. The young Tan, who is himself a millennial, introduced Ginto during the first half of the year as the company’s way of capturing a share of the country’s growing gin market.

Despite a decline in global sales, gin continues to be a top product among drinkers in the Philippines. Citing Euromonitor, Drinks International Magazine in its 2021 issue of The Millionaires Club, said that gin even surpassed brandy as the country’s most popular spirit in the past year.

The change, it said, was “the result of young Filipinos who see the category as a trendy alternative to the traditional vinous spirit’”

Drinks International is among the most prestigious publications that hands out the yearly World’s Number 1 award for different spirits categories. It collects data on 155 million case brands from public company reports and requested results. It then calculates growth from the actual volume data supplied.

Tanduay, which has been declared the World’s Number 1 Rum by the magazine for four consecutive years now, is aiming to have a share of the country’s gin market through its new product, Ginto.

Ginto is currently available in Luzon, which is a predominantly gin market. It is also available in select areas in Visayas and Mindanao. Ginto is priced at a very affordable PhP120 suggested retail price (SRP).

Tan admitted that while Luzon is a very challenging region for liquor, they are hopeful that they can capture a good slice of the island’s gin business as it is known to be more open to different types of drinks.

The pandemic has made it even more challenging for businesses, and Tan is thankful to have a strong team that knows how to hurdle the obstacles that come their way.

“Right now, our logistics arm and online sales platform are very essential to our business. They are the ones that bring Ginto and our other products to our customers,” Tan said. “So, despite the challenges, Ginto is performing really well. We have also been receiving good feedback from stores and on social media. There were inquiries from abroad as well since we came out with the product.”

Tanduay is known for its expertise in barrel-aging, a process that gives spirits a classic aged flavor like caramel, oak, vanilla, and smoke. If the barrels were previously used for other spirits, the gin also takes the flavor of that spirit.

The company owns aging facilities that house 200,000 oak barrels with a capacity of approximately 40 million gauge liters.

Tan noted that while taste preference is quite difficult to pinpoint, Ginto offers a product that gives a new flavor and a new experience in gin drinking.

Tan brothers aim for growing ready-to-drink market with new Barman Cocktail Concentrates

Tanduay is introducing new cocktail concentrates with the aim of capturing the surging ready-to-drink market. According to The Millionaires’ Club issue of Drinks International Magazine, ready-to-drink products were one of the key trends in the past year along with e-commerce and low/no alternatives.

“It’s a growing category, and we are ready to address the needs of the market,” said Tanduay President and COO Lucio Tan III, adding that, “We also anticipated a spike in the number of people drinking in the comfort of their homes.”

The new Barman Cocktail Concentrates come in three flavors:  Amaretto Sour, Black Russian, and Dark & Stormy. They come in 250 ml bottles and can be purchased via www.shots.ph., Tanduay’s e-commerce website. They are also available in Shopee, Lazada, Puregold, 7-Eleven, and leading supermarkets and grocery stores.

The new Barman Cocktail Concentrates come in three flavors: Amaretto Sour, Black Russian, and Dark & Stormy.

The product line was developed by the Tanduay New Product Development unit along with its sales and marketing departments to cater to evolving market’s tastes and needs.

“We call it the quick-fix cocktail mix as they’re hassle-free to prepare. All you need to do is add water to enjoy them,” said Tanduay Executive Vice President Kyle Tan.

The Tan brothers took over the reins at Tanduay this year, and have been aggressive in exploring new markets and entering new product categories.

“While we continue offering the Tanduay products that many Filipinos love, we are also developing new products for emerging consumers such as the millennial market,” said the older Tan.

About the Barman Cocktail Concentrates

Barman Amaretto Sour is a blend of rum with flavors of amaretto and citrus fruit. It contains 50% alcohol and has the aroma of fresh cherries, lemon, vanilla, and candied almond. Its taste is a balance of sweet amaretto and sour lemon with sweet almond cherry taste that finishes with fruity and nutty caramel.

 Barman Black Russian, meanwhile, is a blend of vodka and coffee liqueur. It also contains 50% alcohol. Its flavor has notes of black coffee, sweet vanilla bean, tablea, and notes of caramel and it has aromas of bittersweet coffee bean and roasted chestnut. It’s the perfect everyday cocktail, whether enjoyed on your own or via a virtual party with colleagues and friends.

All eligible claims applications submitted through FWD Moments are processed instantly by a cutting-edge AI assessment engine, allowing customers of approved claims to receive payments via their selected means instantaneously.

Since the instant claims service on FWD Moments was launched last December, overall usage has jumped more than 350%, with more than 90% of these instant claims paid via FPS or in cash at 7-Eleven MTR stores. Customers are also increasingly selecting to receive claims payments via FPS as Hong Kong continues to become more digitally enabled.

1 Personal Accident claims: The instant claims service for personal accident remains applicable to claim amounts within HK$3,000. About 60% of personal accident claims applications received by FWD have been within HK$3,000.

Visa’s Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 campaign for Shopee launches in the Philippines

Visa, Worldwide Sponsor of the Olympic Games, has announced recently the launch of their Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 campaign in the Philippines.

The promotion will run until August 8. This will entitle Filipino Visa cardholders to a discount of 200 Philippine pesos and stand a chance to win Visa Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 themed merchandise such as tote bags and organizers.

From August 6 to 8, Visa cardholders in the Philippines can also receive a discount of 150 Philippine pesos with a minimum spend of 1,500 Philippine pesos at any local merchant on Shopee.
