Globe is offering free connectivity support, including roaming call, text and data services, to Filipinos in Taiwan following the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Wednesday morning.
To help them get in touch with loved ones or make emergency calls, Globe postpaid and prepaid customers and TM users currently using roaming services in Taiwan will get free 15 minutes of incoming and outgoing calls, 15 texts to all networks, and 1GB data (whichever service is currently available) good for 7 days at no extra cost.
To avail of the free roaming service, Globe and TM customers only need to connect to Globe’s roaming partners Taiwan Mobile and Chunghwa Telecom. The free roaming service offer requires no registration and will be automatically provided to Globe users. A confirmation message will be sent to customers advising them that the free roaming offer is ready for use.
“Tens and thousands of Filipinos work and live in Taiwan, with thousands more going on a visit annually. We hope that through this immediate connectivity support, we can help our customers there contact their loved ones and cope in the aftermath of this temblor,” said Paula Rivera-Castillo, Head of Globe International Business.
To avail of free roaming services, Globe and TM customers in Taiwan can follow the following steps:
To make a call, dial “+” plus country code, area code and telephone number (ex. +63773101212) or dial “+” plus country code and mobile number (ex. +639171234567).
To send a text, type “+” plus country code and mobile number (ex. +639171234567).
To use the free 1GB data allocation, turn on mobile data and data roaming and set the network connection to 3G or LTE. Postpaid customers are encouraged to only turn on their mobile data and data roaming once they have received the activation message.
The quake struck 18 kilometers of Taiwan’s Hualien City early morning Wednesday, the strongest in 25 years, according to news reports. It toppled buildings, leaving people trapped, and triggered landslides and tsunami warnings in Japan and the Philippines. At 10:33 a.m., the Philippines’ seismology agency canceled the warning.
Sta. Mesa, Manila — The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) was hailed as 10th best university for Communications and Public Relations in the Philippines based on research performance, as reported by the 2024 EduRank rankings by academic field.
The ranking was based on the research performance of various universities. A graph of 14.4k citations received by 2.49K academic papers made by 10 universities in the Philippines was used to calculate publications’ ratings which then were adjusted for release dates added to final scores.
In accordance with EduRank methodology, the selection of schools for Best Communication and Public Relations Schools in the Philippines wasn’t based on a specific selection process, but rather on the availability of data for research performance.
EduRank uses the number of citations and published academic papers in its rankings. Universities with active research programs in Communications and Public Relations are more likely to have data available for EduRank to analyze.
The independent metric-based ranking “EduRank.org” consists of 14,131 universities from 183 countries.
Meanwhile, PUP placed 14th out of 229 Philippine institutions and fifth among universities in Manila in Edurank’s February 2024 edition of the international university rankings.

The Cultural Center of the Philippines, with its Board of Trustees, Management and employees, extends its deepest condolences to bereaved family and friends of its former Trustee Zenaida “Nedy” Tantoco, who passed away on February 8, 2024.
A top honcho in the luxury retail industry and a philanthropist, the late Tantoco has been part of the CCP Board of Trustees from 2002 until her resignation in 2021.
File photo of Ms. “Nedy” Tantoco during the Moroccan Festival event at Rustan’s Makati.
During her 19 years as CCP Trustee, her accomplishments were defined by her integrity and reliability, as well as her unwavering love and inspiring passion for arts and culture.
The indefatigable chairman and CEO of the Rustan Commercial Corporation and Stores Specialists, Inc had masterminded numerous fundraising efforts, putting her boundless energy for the benefit of the CCP, its resident companies, and employees.
She has raised funds for new musical instruments and regular repairs of musical instruments of the PPO musicians. She had been instrumental in bringing the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) to the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York.
An impresario of opera in the Philippines, Tantoco had also underwritten several CCP productions, including the opera productions in recent years including Gaetano Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore (The Elixir of Love) in 2017, Gaetano Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor in 2020, and Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot in 2022, among others.
A staunch supporter of the arts, Tantoco’s legacy will persist at the Cultural Center of the Philippines long into the future.
The CCP and the art community in general grieves the loss of a strong ally in pursuing cultural endeavors and promoting artistic excellence. May her soul rest in peace and rise in glory.

As the company continues to live up to the standards and promote the DEI principles in the workplace and beyond, leading consumer finance company Home Credit Philippines bagged yet again another GoldStevie® in the tenth annual Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards for the Innovative Achievement for Diversity and Inclusion category.
The company was recognized during a virtual awarding ceremony held last June 27, where all awardees across the Asia-Pacific region commemorated the achievements and innovations of these companies and how they contributed to their respective industries.
“Every day, we celebrate our employees’ diversity in gender, nationality, culture, age, and background. Beyond this, we foster a home where everyone can share their unique perspectives, respect each other’s needs, and reach their full potential without barriers,” said Alpha Omega Aquino, Home Credit Philippines’ Chief People Officer.
She added, “This GoldStevie® award is an attestation of our commitment to championing and further promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and beyond. And here at Home Credit, we’re proud to say that there are no small roles, everyone is important.”
DEI in the workplace and beyond
Backed by its commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG), Home Credit continues to foster diversity and inclusion by creating programs that aim to have meaningful engagement among all its employees.
In April 2022, the company forged partnerships with the Philippine Business Coalition for Women Empowerment (PBCWE) and the Philippine LGBT Chamber of Commerce (PLCC) to further cement its commitment to achieving gender equality and inclusion in the workplace. The said organizations have guided Home Credit in creating policies, guidelines, and projects that helped the company efficiently promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Pride starts at Home
During this Pride Month, Home Credit held a series of activities to strengthen further its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. These activities were conducted in partnership with its recently formed Pride Club composed of LGBTQ employees and allies.

Manila, Philippines— Over the past year, business leaders all around the world and across the country had one goal in mind – growing the economy in a post-pandemic setting. The industry landscape experienced numerous ebbs and flows in recent months. Companies with leaders who can pivot and diversify their business are the ones changing the game. The Asia CEO Awards 2023 returns to give recognition to these movers and shakers, honoring their commitment to the progressive Philippines.
Now in its 14th year, the Asia CEO Awards is reimagining its overall mission and vision, in line with the rapidly-shifting world around it. ACA founder Rebecca Bustamante hopes to further reinforce the Philippines’ standing as a center of business excellence and sees the awards as a platform to develop future industry leaders. “The Philippines has so many business leaders waiting in the wings for their chance to drive the economy to greater heights. They are strong, compassionate, and resilient,” shares Bustamante. “We see this every year, and now we want to do our part to help nurture this potential.”
For 2023 and beyond, the ACA’s rallying cry is ONE TRUE PRIZE. Bustamante and her team were inspired by the idea of the awards being the first, genuine, and among the highly-regarded peer organizations in the country. They hope to set a standard for excellence for others, and that their recognition will inspire a positive impact on the community.

Finalists for each award category are announced once a shortlist has been made by the panel.
The Circle of Excellence Awardees and the Grand Winners will be presented at the 2032 Asia CEO Awards to be held in October of this year.
Going beyond just the pageantry of an awards night, the ACA is putting in the work. During this year’s presentation, Bustamante will be launching the Learning Excellence & Active Development (L.E.A.D.) Center. The promise is a transforming experience, aligned with the idea that “Together we can do more.” It is focused on producing highly competent, well-rounded, proactive individuals who will be the future drivers of the nation. Through diversity, equity, and inclusion, they hope to build a foundation for informed and intelligent business practices across all sectors. The leadership development framework will also include advocacy and outreach work for poverty and hunger alleviation. The L.E.A.D. programs will be initially offered online this April, but they hope to hold sessions in their soon-to-be-built Tagaytay facility.
The ACA and its programs are made possible by valuable partners who have shared the same vision over the years. For 2023, Globe Telecom returns as the grand title sponsor. Their participation extends beyond the awards, highlighted by their support of the L.E.A.D Center program through nation-building initiatives. In turn, the ACA presented a donation to Globe’s landmark project, The Hapag Movement, during the media launch.
