Discover Sabang Beach This Summer: Enjoy a Comfortable Stay at Four Points Palawan

On sunny days, Sabang Beach, located on the western coast of Palawan, offers a glimpse of an untouched tropical paradise. While it’s the gateway to the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (30 minutes away by boat), the beach remains uncrowded, embodying why Palawan is known as the Philippines’ “last frontier.”

While many travelers stay in Puerto Princesa City, Sabang Beach offers a unique appeal. For those who love nature and adventure during the day and seek comfort at night, there’s a Four Points by Sheraton hotel by the beach.

Four Points by Sheraton

Four Points by Sheraton is one of the 30-plus hotel brands of the renowned Marriott International group. The hotel in Palawan offers the essential amenities that a traveler might seek in a luxury resort. All the rooms are just steps from the beach, with a tech-friendly workspace, complimentary Wi-Fi,  and an ambiance that soothes into instant relaxation after a day of adventuring. The beds are signature Four Points by Sheraton Comfort Beds.

Four Points by Sheraton Palawan, Puerto Princesa.

The resort effectively uses its 5.25-hectare property by providing spacious areas for leisure and relaxation. Restful lounge areas dot the premises; there’s a 1,367 sq.m. pool with a swim-up bar, an on-premise spa, a 24-hour fitness center, and for parents who may need “me time,” the hotel offers Cub’s Club— a playroom with an indoor playground, supervised activities, and a safe environment for children to spend a few hours at play.

The resort is fully powered by solar energy, with 30% generated from its own solar panels and the remaining sourced from Sabang Renewable Energy Corporation (SREC), ensuring a sustainable and eco-friendly energy supply. It has a materials recovery facility, and a rainwater catchment system, and operates its water treatment facility. The staff’s uniforms come from Rurungan sa Tubod Foundation which teaches women from impoverished areas how to weave.

Evolution all-day dining restaurant

Additionally, Evolution, the all-day dining and buffet restaurant, uses local produce sourced from the resort’s organic garden, and its partner, Sheridan Organic Farm. Guests can book a tour and farm-to-table lunch for a chance to savor truly fresh and organic cuisine. Some guests may even opt to do a quick immersion in farm life by trying out plowing a rice field or harvesting vegetables. Many leave with a deeper respect for farmers and the relationship between man and nature.

What to do

With the all-important “where can we take you” covered, let’s talk about “what to do.” The Four Points Palawan works with community organizations that steward the various eco-tourism sites in the area to organize tours that allow guests to immerse themselves in the local culture and natural beauty.

Ugong Rock & Zip Line – Climb through limestone caves, feel the thrill of spelunking, then soar over lush landscapes on an exhilarating zip line ride!

The beach adjacent to the resort is a nesting haven for olive ridley and green sea turtles, and if a visit is timed just right there’s the chance to watch the eggs hatching. The Mangrove Paddleboat Tour is engaging and educational as visitors glide through a 1.2-kilometer stretch of mangrove waterways, and community guides share insights about the local ecosystem. Keen observers may spot monitor lizards sunning themselves on rocks, the Palawan Hornbill and other birds, snakes curled up on branches, and more. The Sabang Waterfall is 50 feet high and a 20-minute walk along the beach from the wharf. Tumbling over rocks and boulders, the water crashes into a rock pool on the beach. For an adrenaline rush, there’s the Puerto Princesa Sabang X Zipline.

Soaring 150 feet high and stretching 800 meters long, it offers breathtaking views of Sabang Beach. Adventure seekers will enjoy Ugong Rock. Or there’s the Sabang Jungle Trail, a 5-kilometer trek through a limestone karst forest alive with wildlife, beautiful dipterocarp trees, and small caves. The best thing about all of these activities is that they’re less than an hour from the Four Points Palawan, leaving enough time for sunning on the beach or lounging by the pool.

Sabang Mangrove Forest – Paddle through nature’s sanctuary and discover the rich biodiversity of Sabang’s serene mangrove forest.

Broadcast Journalist Vicky Morales: Embracing Her Unique Journey and Accomplishments

Newscasters need to be well-versed in various subjects. “You must constantly prepare yourself. The more experiences you gain along the way, the better it will be for you in the long run,” shares Vicky. She is not just a voice on the screen, but a well-rounded newscaster equipped to engage with the world in all its complexity.

After over two decades in the industry, broadcast journalist and television presenter Vicky Morales radiates self-assurance. She no longer feels pressured to compare her achievements with those of others, embracing her unique journey and accomplishments.

“I’m happy the way I am now,” relates Vicky from a previous exclusive interview. She’s now a regular anchor for 24 Oras along with Mel Tiangco. She’s also hosting Wish Ko Lang and Good News. She’s one of the pillars of GMA News and Public Affairs.

Courtesy: Vicky Morales on Instagram @vickymorales

Vicky first took up BS Management at the Ateneo de Manila University then shifted to Communication in her second year. A consistent dean’s lister, she graduated in 1990 with First Honors and was nominated by the Ateneo to the 1990 RFM – Rotary Search for the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines.

Vicky’s start in broadcasting wasn’t smooth. Her professor gave her a bright recommendation for a job with ABS-CBN. She was assigned as a segment reporter but her stint didn’t last very long. She was singled out among more than 500 applicants for a newscasting job in GMA Headline News but she was taken off after three to four months.

Tina Monzon-Palma, who was the head of GMA’s news section at the time, frankly told her that she did not seem well-versed in the news and appeared very nervous. Vicky recalled crying when she lost her first newscasting position, but she always viewed it as a challenge to grow from.

Vicky received another opportunity when Dong Puno invited her to join his daily morning talk show, Business Today, which was re-launched as Good Morning Asia in 1997. She co-hosted, produced reports, and wrote news segments for the show.

Over time, Vicky honed her skills sufficiently to make a comeback on GMA Network News, where she co-hosted with Mike Enriquez and produced reports for Saksi. In 1997, she participated in a month-long training program on Television News Production at New York University in the USA.

As a result, Vicky gained significant self-confidence.

Constantly prepare yourself

Vicky feels she’s being challenged every day. According to her, every day presents new challenges. In a way, there’s so much element of surprise in the business.

“You wake up each morning not knowing what will actually happen, what assignment you can actually be given,” she quips.  “You just have to constantly prepare yourself. The more experiences you have along the way, the better for you in the long run.”

Throwback photos of Vicky /personal file

Each day, Vicky undergoes a meticulous ritual before stepping in front of the camera. “It’s a long-term commitment to honing my craft,” she explains, her voice steady with conviction. Armed with her scripts, she meticulously inspects each line, making corrections with the precision of an artist refining their masterpiece. She understands that her delivery must resonate with her unique speaking style, a personal touch that sets her apart.

To combat the flutter of nerves that once accompanied her early days in broadcasting, Vicky devised a powerful strategy: she immerses herself in a wealth of knowledge. This commitment to continuous learning allows her to tackle the myriad of topics that come her way, ensuring she is not just a voice on the screen, but a well-rounded newscaster equipped to engage with the world in all its complexity.

On integrity and public trust

Vicky offers valuable advice for aspiring broadcasters. She emphasizes that, in addition to having the right skills, integrity is crucial because news relies heavily on public trust. “You should never compromise that trust. Take great care in maintaining it by verifying the news; you should never be paid to say what you say,” she points out.

She highlights the vital role of attitude—qualities like enthusiasm, curiosity, tenacity, and determination. Additionally, she emphasizes that teamwork is essential for success.

“It’s essential to get along well with people. The news often focuses on teamwork and collaboration to produce quality outcomes. Additionally, staying informed about current events is a habit worth cultivating. This is particularly important during an ambush interview, where you need to think quickly and respond on the spot.”

One important lesson she learned from her experiences is that there are always multiple sides to every story. She explains, “No matter how convincing one person may sound, everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt. It’s all about fairness and objectivity. I strive to hear both sides of the story as much as possible. We all have our own biases, but it’s crucial to set those aside.”

Vicky credits her strong work ethic and understanding of financial responsibility to her parents, despite their comfortable lifestyle. She enjoys a fulfilling family life, being married to Attorney Alfonso Reyno III. Together, they have twins named Leon Alfonso and Filippo Luis, and daughter named Daniela.

The broadcasting industry, she observes, often falls short in terms of compensation. However, she emphasizes that with dedication and effort, the rewards can extend far beyond financial gain, offering invaluable experiences and personal growth.

Wanderlust in the Swiss Alps: A Family’s Dream Vacation

The writer vividly recounts her family’s enchanting dream vacation to Switzerland, a breathtaking destination celebrated for its majestic alpine landscapes, charming villages, and pristine lakes. This journey promises not only stunning sights but also unforgettable experiences, as they immerse themselves in the beauty and warmth of this captivating country.

Ruby’s Precious Moments 6th Anniversary Special Feature (Part 1)

My family and I love to travel, whether locally or to completely different countries. We enjoy exploring new places, experiencing various cultures, and tasting different foods. Before the pandemic, we traveled frequently and thought that our adventures would come to a halt. However, we were fortunate enough to have road trips and visit places, even if only through the windows of our car. Once restrictions eased and we could incorporate travel back into our busy schedules, we planned a long-awaited trip to the Alps. After months of planning and anticipation, we finally boarded our plane.

A Short Stay in Milan

We arrived at Malpensa Airport in Milan quite early, which allowed us ample time to make our way to the train that connects Malpensa to Milano Centrale, located over an hour away. Upon arriving at Milano Centrale, we were impressed by the station’s well-preserved interior, which gave us a sense of being transported back in time—if you disregard the modern trains, of course. Milano Centrale is often bustling with travelers, but the train schedules are well organized, even amidst the busy atmosphere. Inside the station, large screens display information about train arrivals and departures, including platforms, times, and any delays. However, these screens can only show limited information, so if your next train is a couple of hours away—like ours was—you might have to wait before it appears. With plenty of time on our hands, we treated ourselves to focaccia sandwiches at La Focacceria, which quickly became my favorite sandwich shop.

Having four pieces of luggage during this trip was a hassle, and it even led us to misplace an important shoulder bag that contained our passports. Fortunately, we caught the attention of the local police, who returned our passports to us just in time for our next train to Brig, Switzerland.

By this point, I was feeling tired and sleepy and craved a hot drink. The journey from Italy to Brig was long but beautifully scenic, with the Alps coming into view as we approached the northernmost parts of Italy. Italy comes to an end as you approach a long tunnel during the train ride. I managed to grab some sleep during these moments, only to be shaken awake by my parents, who urged me to look out the window. It felt like being transported to another world—everything was covered in snow, the majestic Alps surrounded us, and the trains appeared stunning against the white backdrop.

Finally in Switzerland

Stepping off the train was exciting, and walking on the snow was thrilling, but it was colder than in Italy. Dragging our luggage through the snow was exhausting. We initially had to wait another 30 minutes for our train to Zermatt to arrive. However, some kind men operating the Glacier Express, the famous scenic train of Switzerland, allowed us to board without reservation. It was nearly 5 PM by this time, and we were feeling restless, but this generous gentleman made our day and treated us just like the passengers who had reserved their seats. He explained that it had been a heavy snowfall that day, causing delays for the trains. This experience was my introduction to the Swiss people, and I can confidently say that this impression held true for the rest of our trip.

Train Rides to Zermatt

Trains to Zermatt typically depart from and arrive at Brig and Visp stations, which connect you to other locations in Switzerland. One drawback of staying in Zermatt is the one-and-a-half-hour train ride required to travel to various parts of the country. However, we appreciated these train journeys, as they allowed us to gradually begin and end our days while enjoying breathtaking views of snow-covered mountains, trees, and charming towns like St. Niklaus, which features a Santa-themed tower in honor of its namesake.

Zermatt, even at night, is a wonder. Zermatt is known for its majestic view of the Matterhorn, also known as the Toblerone Mountain, but this place is also a dream destination of many tourists as it offers a cozy vibe with its wood and stone houses, view of the Alps covered in snow, even in Summer, and car-less streets that make it pedestrian friendly. Zermatt is also a famous destination for people who love to ski. Numerous people of all ages wear ski gear, especially during winter. We would spend our Christmas Eve in Zermatt and even attend the Christmas Eve mass at the Parish church of St Mauritius just across the Zermatterhof and Zermatt Museum.

A Day as Seri and Captain Ri at Interlaken

The next day, we rode a train to Interlaken Ost, where we would begin our trip of the day. Interlaken is a famous town for Kdrama watchers, especially those who love Crash Landing on You (CLOY). Scenes from CLOY were shot here, and the famous dock scene where Captain Ri played his piano was shot at a village called Iseltwald. Iseltwald is a bus away from the train station and is a really quiet place. The dock is not hard to spot, once you get off the bus, just follow the people with you as they most probably will be taking pictures there as well, or you can walk straight from the bus stop towards the lake. If you want to take pictures at the iconic dock, it would cost you 5 CHF. A bit costly, but the pictures are worth it.

Back in Interlaken Ost, you can walk towards Interlaken West or ride another train. Walking is advisable as the place is very scenic and not too hard to navigate. After a few minutes of walking straight, a ginormous park will welcome you. In winter, this park is filled with snow and is completely white. This is also the landing spot for paragliders. Within the area are the monastery and Interlaken Castle. If you wish to visit Harder Kulm, which offers a great view of the place, a funicular is situated across a bridge along the walk from the station to Interlaken West.

The Gorgeous City of Bern

The next day, we set off to Bern, the capital of Switzerland. Bern is a large city and has a different vibe compared to Zermatt and Interlaken. It is considered one of the country’s most beautiful cities, boasting stunning architecture, a plethora of local shops, and a rich history embedded in the town itself. The old town of Bern is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and walking along its cobblestone streets feels like being transported back in time.

We spent the day wandering around this charming city and visited the iconic Zytglogge clock tower, the Federal Palace, and several churches along the way. Across the bridge from the casino, there is a collection of museums, including the Bernisches Historisches Museum and the Einstein Museum, which we explored for about an hour.

Bern is a wonderful place to get lost, as each street resembles a picture on a postcard, making you feel as though you are walking through a movie set. If you haven’t already noticed, Bern quickly became my favorite city in Switzerland, and I found myself missing it once we left. If you happen to get lost, don’t hesitate to ask the locals for directions with a smile!

Papet Pasyon 2025 comes home to CCP

The Cultural Center of the Philippines and Teatrong Mulat ng Pilipinas present PAPET PASYON 2025, at the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez on April 6, 2025, for two performances at 2:30pm and 6pm.

Written by National Artist for Theater Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio, Papet Pasyon 2025 features and explores in its storytelling, the important moments during the Holy Week. It begins with Jesus’ entry to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, His outburst at the Temple, His miracles, His agony in the garden at Gethsemane, His final supper with His twelve disciples, Judas’ betrayal, Jesus’ passion, death, and resurrection on Easter Sunday. A young boy who received a miracle from Jesus acts as a central storyteller in this play based on Biblical passages and Filipino tradition during Holy Week.

This puppet play is a celebration, a feast of traditions and heritage of the Filipino people. Papet Pasyon 2025 is a senakulo, a folk-religious and theatrical retelling of the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  It features wooden puppets, smithed by master woodcarvers of the woodcarving town of Paete in Laguna.

Teatrong Mulat continues the panata initiated by Lapeña-Bonifacio in 1985. First staged at the CCP, Papet Pasyon has been performed annually in various venues such as churches, schools, and other performing spaces in Metro Manila and Bulacan until it found its permanent home at the Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio Teatro Papet Museo in Teacher’s Village, Quezon City, in 2006.

At the height of the pandemic in 2021 and 2022, Teatrong Mulat produced two stage-to-film versions, which were live-streamed on the official Facebook page of Teatrong Mulat. In 2023, Papet Pasyon was staged at the recently renovated Metropolitan Theater of Manila.

Marking its 40th anniversary, Papet Pasyon 2025 returns to where it all began – at the CCP –  welcoming both seasoned and new generations of Mulateers (as the Mulat Theater puppeteers are fondly called) to continue their decades-long panata each Lenten season.

Directed by Teatrong Mulat artistic director, Amihan Bonifacio-Ramolete, Papet Pasyon 2025 has undergone numerous updates over the years from the length of the texts and the wooden rod puppets to the incorporation of shadow play elements and voice-over recordings; each innovation has helped the play stand the test of time.

Amid its constant evolution, Papet Pasyon 2025 has remained steadfast in its original vision since its debut 40 years ago: to present the senakulo through the art of puppetry, bringing the passion of Jesus Christ closer to new and younger generations of audiences.

The puppet play features an ensemble of puppeteers, comprised of Bonifacio-Ramolete, Raymund Ramolete, Roel Ramolete, siglo, Arvy Dimaculangan, Shenn Apilado, Khen Del Prado, Nour Hooshmand, Mina Camacho, Janno Castillo, Hazelle Catena, Ayeesha Cuerpo, Anna Dalet, Ravelyn Dar Juan, Vinzar Rubi, Harvey Sallador, and V Soriano.

Sharing their vocal talents to bring to life the different biblical characters are Esteban Mara Fulay, Jr., Greg de Leon, Jessamae Gabon, Carlito Camahalan Amalla, Pau Benitez, Fitz Edward Torres Bitana, Darwin Desoacido, Kenneth del Prado, Jules dela Paz, Arvy Flores Dimaculangan, Rej Duka, Marynor Madamesila, Christelle Manuel, Jessette Gonzales Namin, Marvin Olaes, Vincent Kevin Pajara, Aina Ramolete, Katte Sabate, Gabo Tolentino, and Jamee Stevana Vega.

The artistic and production team of Papet Pasyon 2025 include: playwright and puppet designer NA Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio, director Amihan Bonifacio-Ramolete, music director Rodolfo de Leon, puppet designers Bernadette Solina-Wolf, Maurice Carvajal, Joji Pamintuan, Carol Castro, Romerico Romero, and Carlito Amalla, puppet sculptors Paloy Cagayat and Jeriel Madrigal, set designer Ohm David, costume designer Darwin Desoacido, shadow play designer siglo, sound designer and editor Arvy Dimaculangan, audio engineer Jessamae Gabon, light designer and technical director Satya Edilo, video designer/editor Steven Tansiongco, poster designer and assistant stage manager V Soriano, stage manager Shania Lee Cuerpo, production manager Janno Castillo, and production assistant Malvin Abadinas.

Papet Pasyon 2025 is free to the public.

Women break money, health and well-being barriers in empowering conversation with AIA Philippines and She Talks Asia

In a candid and thought-provoking roundtable co-hosted by leading insurance firm AIA Philippines and women empowerment platform She Talks Asia, women from diverse backgrounds came together to discuss topics that are often kept under wraps, challenge stereotypes, and unpack limiting beliefs that hinder their wealth and well-being.

This conversation created a much-needed safe space to rethink how women view money, defy societal norms, and prioritize both immediate needs and long-term goals. From discomfort around discussing finances to undervaluing one’s worth, these are the dialogues we need to have—more openly and more often. Topics like these often get swept under the rug, but platforms like this can help change that.

Challenging limiting beliefs among Filipinas

She Talks Asia founders Lynn Pinugu, Bianca Gonzales, and Iza Calzado got real about how cultural conditioning and hiya (shame) can make it tough for Filipino women to talk about money. “We’re often taught that talking about money is taboo and conditioned to just accept what’s given to us,” Lynn shared. Iza added, “Many of us were raised to think that asking for more is just too much. But it’s totally okay to ask for what you deserve, knowing your worth.”

AIA Philippines’ CEO Melita Teo (center) and AIA Philippines CMO Melissa Henson (leftmost), and the founders of She Talks Asia join forces to initiate conversations that challenge lingering beliefs and inspire women to invest in themselves.

This hit home for a lot of women, highlighting how many still believe they should not be assertive about money. This often leads to self-doubt about financial decisions and feeling embarrassed to ask for help. The women in the room made it clear that it is time to ditch those outdated beliefs, own our financial power, and shape our futures.

AIA Philippines CEO Melita Teo shared her own experience, stressing how important it is to initiate these conversations: “I also needed to become more comfortable discussing finances as part of my work. By striving to do my best in every role and always asking for guidance, I gradually gained that confidence.”

CMO Melissa Henson agreed, and added, “The earlier you take charge of your finances, the more peace of mind you will have as you progress on your journey.”

Achieving financial confidence and goals

The roundtable flowed with practical tips and inspiring ideas for boosting financial well-being. Janna Simpao, who founded Bride and Breakfast, pointed out that understanding your worth and finances begins at home. “If we start in our homes and within our circles, we can create change and normalize conversations about money among women.”

Athlete and entrepreneur Zara Carbonell-Near suggested swapping the restrictive word “budget” for the more empowering “priorities,” a simple yet powerful mindset shift. Meanwhile, Mariel Bitanga, founder of Simply Finance PH, reminded everyone that financial know-how is a learnable skill, not an innate talent. Her top tip: “Face your finances. It’s the hardest but most important part.”

They also looked into the power of seeking guidance and exploring financial tools, including insurance products such as AIA Ascend, for reaching both short-term and long-term goals and building a secure future for themselves and their families. These tools can provide a crucial safety net and empower women to invest confidently. The importance of financial security was a key theme, with participants emphasizing the peace of mind that comes with planning for the future.

As AIA Philippines CMO Melissa Henson explained, “Insurance isn’t an expense. It’s an investment in your peace of mind. Getting insured early means protecting your future at a lower cost, especially while you’re healthy.”

Learning to prioritize one’s well-being

The discussion then turned to the vital connection between financial well-being and overall health, discussing how societal pressures often lead women to prioritize others, resulting in burnout and neglecting their own needs. They explored the “good woman” archetype—often seen as self-sacrificing—and its impact on emotional labor, caregiving, and the guilt many women feel when prioritizing their own needs due to societal expectations.

Practices like exercise, mindfulness, and setting firm boundaries emerged as crucial for sharper decision-making, stress reduction, and safeguarding their health and financial stability simultaneously. The participants learned that true well-being encompassed all aspects of life, not just financial success, and that prioritizing one’s own well-being is essential for being the best partners, parents, and professionals they can be.

More than just a conversation, the AIA Philippines and She Talks Asia roundtable ignited a powerful shift, helping women reclaim their confidence, rethink their beliefs about health and finances, own their worth, and build a future rooted in well-being. This spark is bound to inspire generations.
