Top Trends to Help You Navigate Dating in 2024

Bumble, the women-first dating app, released its annual dating trends for 2024. The popular dating app has garnered insights from more than 25,000 singles on Bumble around the world to identify trends that will define dating and relationships in the year to come.

Bumble’s 2023 trends focused on navigating love abroad with Wanderlove, dating beyond your type with Open-casting and establishing new boundaries with our partners, our work lives and our finances. Looking ahead, 2024 is set to be the year of “self” in dating and relationships with more people looking inwards at what they value and want.

Heading into 2024, there is an air of optimism and clarity for the ‘year of self’ as Bumble’s research* shows that more than half (63%) of Filipino women surveyed are going into the new year with a clear view of what they want from their romantic lives.

Bumble’s dating trend predictions include:

  • Timeline Decline: People, especially women, continue to feel a constant pressure to follow traditional relationship timelines. Into 2024, we’re seeing the decline of timelines in favor of women choosing to actively build their own path, with 1 in 3 (31%) Filipino women saying they are no longer focused on adhering to traditional timelines and milestones.

  • Gen(erational)-Blend Romance: Building on dating beyond your ‘type’, there has been an increase in cross-generational relationships. Singles on Bumble are increasingly open to connections both older and younger. For 2 in 3 (63%) people surveyed globally, age is not a defining factor when dating with more than half (59%) of women saying they are now more open to dating someone younger than them. In the Philippines specifically, 4 in 5 men are now more open to dating older women.

  • Val-Core Dating: For almost half (48%) of the people on Bumble in the Philippines, it is key that their partner actively engages with politics and social causes, in fact, it makes them more attractive. Specifically, 84% of Filipinos say their potential partner engaging in Human Rights issues is important to them, followed by sustainability (73%) and  politics and voting (72%).

  • Intuitive Intimacy:  Filipino singles are focused on finding security, safety, and understanding, with 44% of those surveyed on Bumble believing that emotional intimacy is now more important than sex and that it’s actually more attractive than physical connection. When it comes to dating, an overwhelming majority (78%) of women in the Philippines say it’s key that their partner has an understanding of both emotional and physical intimacy. In 2024, it’s time to get in your feels.

  • Consider-date: This year’s prioritization of self-care and mental health has led to more than half (58%) of singles around the world being more open about their mental health and making a concerted effort to slow down. In the Philippines,  single people are reframing how they date to better protect their mental health, with almost half (49%) of those surveyed locally actively ‘slow-dating’ and being considerate about how much they are dating to ensure quality over quantity, even more so amongst women (56%).

  • Open-Hearted Masculinity: When it comes to relationships, close to one-third (30%) of Filipino men state that they have actively changed their behavior, becoming more vulnerable and open with people they are dating than ever before.

  • Betterment Burnout: Looking ahead to 2024, singles are rebelling against the constant self-improvement with more than 2 in 3 Filipino women surveyed (69%) taking active steps to be happier with who they are here and now. In fact, 38% of women will now only date people who will not try to change them.

Lucille McCart, Bumble’s APAC Communications Director said: We predict that 2024 will usher in a year of the self, with Filipinos feeling empowered to prioritize what they value, be fearless about what they stand for, and have a renewed sense of clarity about what they want in their romantic lives.”

To empower singles to make the most of 2024, Bumble has launched new features including Best Bees, a curated daily set of four compatible profiles to help you find more relevant connections faster. See someone who also shares your passion for sports or sustainability? You can send a message with the Compliments feature.

* Research was conducted by Bumble using internal polling between September 21st – 26th 2023 with a sample of 26,849 Bumble members around the world, including the Philippines.

Pandemic reinforces the need to strengthen family ties

More than its impact on communities worldwide, COVID-19 has affected even the smallest communities within the four walls of many homes. The resilience of every family is tested by challenges such as the ongoing pandemic.

This was a significant talking point in the latest session of TAYO Naman! (Tulong, Alaga, Yakap at Oras para sa mga Tagapagtaguyod ng Edukasyon), a webinar series by the Department of Education (DepEd) and Globe designed to help teachers, non-teaching personnel, and parents learn more about self-care, wellness, and resilience.

In the episode entitled “Strengthening Family Relationships Amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic” held recently, guest speaker Jing Castañeda, a broadcast journalist and Board Member of the Philippine Mental Health Association, noted how the family unit is being tested to the hilt under current circumstances.

“Marami na pong pag-aaral na nagsasabi na talagang nasusubukan ngayon ang katatagan at mental health ng mga pamilya dahil sa COVID-19. So dalawa yun our individual mental health and the resilience of our family.  We want to emerge stronger so importante na ibangon at mapagtibay ang ating mga pamilya. Build back better. Build back faster,” Castañeda said.

She pointed out the vital role parents play in building resilience among their children, especially during the pandemic. “Napakahalaga po na maging magaling—hindi lang po mabuti—na mga magulang dahil tayo po ang mga haligi at pundasyon ng ating pamilya. A resilient family develops resilient children,” she said.

Castañeda provided ways to encourage the balance of resilience. This includes:

  1. Unloading the negative side. Use social media responsibly, stay away from toxic posts, follow health protocols, apply for financial assistance if needed, create routines within the family, and practice self-care. Lessen the things that could feed stress.
  2. Loading up on the positive side. Pray more, be a “kasambuhay” use social media responsibly, use technology to reach out, enjoy more family time, and assure children of a stable relationship as a family.
  3. Moving the fulcrum. Use social media to retool, learn new skills, and train the brain to plan, focus, juggle multiple tasks, and have self-control.  Use technology to give order and structure.

Senator Joel Villanueva also made an appearance during the session. He shared the tragedy that befell his family last year and gave personal reflections on the value of strong family relationships. His mother, Adoracion Jose Villanueva, and sister, former Bocaue Mayor Joni Villanueva-Tugna, passed away just months apart.

“Hanggang ngayon, hindi ko pa rin maipaliwanag ang sakit na nadarama ko. Subalit ang palaging bumabalik sa isip ko, ‘Sana may isang segundo pa ako para makasama sila.’ Moments like these make us realize all the more what family means in our lives. Puso at sentro pala talaga ng buhay natin ang ating pamilya,” said Villanueva.

Villanueva — author of the work-from-home law passed before the health crisis who helped make the set-up the norm for many businesses — stressed that family members must never forget to check on one another despite busy schedules.

He offered advice for a closer, happier family:

  1. Time is a matter of priority. Devote even one second of the day to family not just to ask them ‘Kamusta’ but to say ‘I love you.’
  2. Don’t settle for the default settings in life. A strong family relationship does not happen instantaneously. People can make edits and improvements.
  3. Create a positive space in life and let the family be a part of it to nurture positive relationships.

The episode was spearheaded by the DepEd School Division of Camarines Sur. Panelists were Minnie Talaguit (Public School District Supervisor of the Goa District); Marjorie Gabatin (Master Teacher II of the Sagurong High School); and Antonio Valencia (SHS Teacher II of the Juan F. Triveño Memorial High School).

The TAYO Naman webinars are led by the DepEd Disaster Risk Reduction Management Services (DepEd-DRRMS) and the Bureau of Human Resource and Organizational Development-Employee Welfare Division (BHROD-EWD) in collaboration with Globe’s Global Filipino Teachers Series on Psychosocial Support Services, Philippine Mental Health Association Inc., and MAGIS Creative Spaces.

The webinars are held every Friday from 8:30 to 10:00 am and streamed live on DepEd Philippines, DepEd DRRMS, and  Globe Bridgecom.

How to Keep the Passion Alive in your Relationship?

Intimacy is an important part of every relationship. Besides the fact that it’s an activity that is sure to release dopamine, it’s something that allows you and your partner to develop a bond. For most couples, sex is an act of intimacy and a way to feel more secure. It’s an opportunity to show your partner love and affection.

Research shows that sex brings about many benefits in long-term relationships. It improves connection, bond, and relieves stress. It’s also a good activity to improve your physical body. A study in 2013 found that sex can also soothe headaches.

Sex compatibility is important. Two people in a relationship with different sex drives may affect each other’s love language. There are surveys that show that only 42% of women are truly satisfied with their partners. 4/5 women say size matters and while the world’s average male organ size is 5.2 inches, Filipino men have an average of 4.2 inches.

It’s always a good idea to keep the spark alive and keep things different once in a while. Whether or not your partner is gifted in that aspect, having an extra edge in size may translate to deeper satisfaction. If you’re looking for ways to keep the passion alive, Achilles Rise is a great find.

Achilles Rise is an FDA-approved, proprietary blended topical gel used for enhanced sexual activity and masculinity. It’s a cool gel emollient that is infused with concentrated maca extract and pepha tight – natural ingredients for male organ enlargement and vascular simulation.

Achilles Rise, paired with penile exercises, is the perfect weapon for the modern-day man to grow 4- 7cm extra within a few weeks. It’s also powered with Centella Asiatica extract to further boost libido and increase sexual pleasure.

Achilles Rise also promotes erection and added vigor, helping you perform your best in bed; as well as prepare your organ for Penile Lengthening Exercises – “Jelqing.” Jelqing exercises, done with Achilles, allow one to attain permanent gains in terms of organ enlargement. The Achilles Rise 50ml bottle retails at Php 899. The package itself comes with a manual on different Jelqing techniques for E-Z use.

So keep the spark alive. After a long day of work or at the end of the week, maybe it’s time to let off some steam and rekindle the romance. Perhaps, you haven’t had the talk about your sex life – what you enjoy doing in bed, how often should you do it, what else can you improve on? Now’s the time to ask and put more effort to satisfy each other!

Maybe you can treat him to some fancy dinner, bring out a bottle of wine, and a tube of Achilles Rise. Thank us later. It’s a win-win, anyway!
