Kathryn Bernardo named as first ambassador of this iconic beauty brand

Iconic French beauty brand Lancôme has named Kathryn Bernardo as its first brand ambassador and the ultimate Idôle. The trailblazing actress not only embodies Lancôme’s values but also inspires women with her confidence, which radiates from the inside out.

In selecting their first ambassador for the country, Lancôme Philippines sought an individual who would embody and amplify their ethos of empowerment, happiness, and authentic beauty.

“More than just a brand representative, this person needed to be a resilient, confident woman whose essence reflected Lancôme’s belief in happiness as a source of beauty. She would set an example for Filipinas to dream big and speak up about their beliefs. With these considerations in mind, Lancôme Philippines found the perfect fit in multi-hyphenated actress Kathryn Bernardo.” says Son Ha Nguyen, Division General Manager for L’Oréal Luxe.

Recently, Kathryn revealed a new side of her public persona—edgy, modern, and daring. As an influential actress, Kathryn actively uplifts and represents modern-day Filipinas everywhere. Her talent and hard work have earned her recognition as “Asia’s Superstar” and “Blockbuster Queen.” Throughout her journey, she’s represented morena beauty, challenging societal norms and inspiring many Filipinas to embrace their natural beauty. Kathryn’s dedication to empowering women and promoting authenticity to be your own Idôle, makes her the perfect fit for Lancôme.

Kathryn shares, “As I enter a new Kath era, I am happier knowing I can constantly redefine who I am, find peace in my own company, and accept being a work in progress. Here’s to you—because you can be your own Idôle. Join the ride with me as the first-ever Lancôme Philippines Ambassador”.

It’s no coincidence that Lancôme Idôle was crafted by women, for women. Shyamala Maisondieu, Nadège Le Garlantezec, and Adriana Medina are three master perfumers from France who poured their hearts and souls into creating the classic scent. Together, these three women crafted a fragrance that’s not just a scent, but a symbol of empowerment and authenticity, one that also calls women everywhere to be their own Idôles, dream big, and make their voices heard.

“Kathryn Bernardo perfectly embodies the essence of Lancôme, empowering women to be their own Idôles. Her dedication to promoting authenticity and uplifting Filipinas makes her the perfect fit for our brand,” says Yannick Raynaud, L’Oréal Philippines Country Managing Director. “As Lancôme Philippines’ very first ambassador, Kathryn inspires us all to dream big and take charge. RCBC honors MSMEs in Luzon for advancing financial inclusion

Laguna, Philippines – Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) honored its partner micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as leading advocates for financial inclusion in the provinces of Luzon during the RCBC ATM Go Gawad Kabalikat sa Negosyo 2024 Sales Rally and Regional Awards held last April 1, 2024 at The Monochrome in Nuvali, Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

A total of 100 MSMEs from Luzon received distinctions from RCBC as champions of the bank’s mission of making digital banking services accessible to Filipinos living in low-income, remote, and rural areas. The collaborative efforts of the partner merchants and RCBC yielded a whopping coverage rate of 81% of municipalities, 100% of cities, and 100% of provinces nationwide for the bank’s grassroots-oriented and bank-agnostic digital solution RCBC ATM Go. RCBC has partnered with MSMEs since the inception of RCBC ATM Go to provide additional income for enterprises, tap into the social trust that they have built with their communities, and empower them to become leading advocates of digital finance and financial literacy in their areas.

The strong and meaningful partnerships RCBC has pursued with the public sector is part of the success of RCBC ATM Go. Officials from the government graced the event and congratulated RCBC and the merchants for successfully mounting the event and expanding the financial services network in the country. The agencies highlighted the essential role the bank plays in the country’s economy, financial community, and MSME sector.

The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) recognized the hard work of the RCBC ATM Go merchants which include cooperatives in Luzon for making financial services reachable and functional in the most remote parts of the country.

“It shows they put heart, especially empathy, at the center of their innovations, services, and culture. We congratulate all the partner merchants including cooperatives with us today, and applaud them for their efforts to bring digital finance even to the farthest of places,” the Cooperative Development Authority Region IV-A’s Senior Cooperative Development Specialist Mr. Dexter Perez said.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) also lauded the efforts of RCBC in increasing the opportunities for MSMEs to generate additional income. The government agency also highlighted the role of RCBC in enabling entrepreneurs to enjoy convenient business transactions through the bank’s wide array of business solutions.

“Financial institutions play a big role in the success of MSMEs and the business establishment. We are happy that RCBC has expanded its ATM Go network nationwide and is now recognizing its top partners in various regions. We wish our partner RCBC the best in their initiatives,” DTI Laguna Provincial Director Mr. Christian Ted Tungohan said.

The top merchants for Luzon expressed their gratitude to RCBC for recognizing their efforts. “Ang sarap lang po sa pakiramdam na meron pong ganitong event si RCBC para sa aming mga merchant po, yung mararamdaman mo talaga na nagbubunga yung mga hardwork na ibinibigay mo sa business mo,” Ann Aubrey Angeles, one of the top merchants from San Miguel, Bulacan, said in jubilation.

“Opportunity comes in 2023, we were given this ATM Go ng RCBC and it changed our life. Minsan natutulog na kami, alas onse o alas dose ng gabi every Friday night pag gabi na dumating ang sweldo ng mga sineserbisyuhan namin, talagang nagtitiis kami kahit gabi dahil sa RCBC ATM Go. Pero dahil dun sa kinikita, nage-enjoy ka rin, nasabi namin sa sarili namin, with RCBC ATM Go, you can Go for More!,” said top merchant Engr. Andy Landicho from Batangas City.

During the sales rally, RCBC also introduced the newest features and capabilities of RCBC ATM Go that the merchants and their customers would enjoy for this year. On top of these innovative features is the acceptance of internationally-registered credit and debit cards for cash withdrawals, activation of key partners as digital lending agents in a newly approved banking campaign, expansion of billers in the bills payment section, sending cash and accepting cash payouts, cash out services through QR codes, and opening of bank accounts through the ATM Go terminals.

The expanded list of services further elevates RCBC ATM Go as a powerful equipment that bridges rural and remote communities to the global and urban ecosystem of fintech and finance. The overall goal of introducing these services to the most distant and isolated communities is to give them economic opportunities to create livelihood and expand their businesses. Most importantly, these wider opportunities enable the merchants to expand their additional sources of revenue and capital, and attract more MSMEs to join the growing community of digital finance advocates.

RCBC Executive Vice President and Chief of Innovations and Inclusion Officer Lito Villanueva addressed the champion merchants and thanked them for helping the bank’s financial inclusion drive. “RCBC ATM Go is our groundbreaking and pioneering phygital (physical-digital) blended banking solution. During the pandemic, while other banks are scrambling to shift to digital, RCBC is already there, two steps ahead, and scaling our digital services. Our ATM Go merchants strategically located all over the country greatly helped us in our march to digital and financial inclusion, empowering more of our kababayans and ensuring that “No Filipino is Left Behind,” Villanueva said.

RCBC ATM Go is one of the Philippines’ leading and topnotch multi-awarded digital solutions that has transformed communities from barren lands of stagnant growth to lush areas of opportunities through its highly innovative banking services. In 2023, the ATM Go recorded an impressive 727% year-on-year growth rate as an excess of 6,000 terminals were deployed and 2,100 partners were onboarded into the program. RCBC also announced that the forecast Compound Annual Growth Rate of the bank was at an astronomical 82% for terminals and 114% for partner-merchants. The solution is regarded as one of the most financial inclusion-centric in the country as 90% of its transactions are traced outside Metro Manila and more than 60% of the transactions are affiliated with the conditional cash transfer program of the government – Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program and with the disbursement of payroll to teachers, military and police personnel. ATM Go is also foreseen as a potential pillar of the tourism sector as terminals have been strategically stationed in high-volume tourist areas where banks are absent and ATMs are scarce.

The RCBC ATM Go Gawad Kabalikat sa Negosyo 2024 Sales Rally has four legs: Regional Awarding Ceremonies in Sta. Rosa, Laguna for Luzon; Catarman, Northern Samar for the Visayas; and Davao City for Mindanao and a National Awarding at Marquis Events Place in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The event is made possible by the invaluable support of the bank’s partners: Malayan Insurance, RCBC Telemoney, and RCBC Credit Cards, Personal Loans, and Payment Solutions with its wide array of Digital Loan Products – RCBC Payday NOW, RCBC Salary Loan NOW and RCBC Personal Digital Loan.

RCBC emerged as the fastest-growing bank in the country, leapfrogging from eighth position in 2018 to fifth in 2023 in the list of the Philippines’ largest privately owned banks in terms of assets. Among its global and local recognitions include a four-peat award as the Philippines’ Best Bank for Digital by Asiamoney, the Eye on Innovation Award by Gartner, YouTube Challenger Award for its viral and out-of-the-box digital ad campaigns generating combined views of over 17 million, Grand Champion for Digital Payments and Financial Inclusion by the Bankers Institute of the Philippines, Number 1 in the Philippine Best Customer Service 2023 survey by the Philippine Daily Inquirer and global research firm Statista, and No 1 in system uptime according to a regional banks study by Brankas.

BaRaptasan 2024: Bringing Different Voices in One Stage

For a mambabalagtas, verbal joust and poetry are so much more than a way to express complex emotions and stories. While it was born as a form of entertainment during the bleak era of American colonialism, Balagtasan – a form of traditional verbal jousting – became a venue to discuss socio-political issues that besieged contemporary society.

Through facts, rhymes, and clever lines, the mambabalagtas would exchange discussions on the pros and cons of a topic relevant to the community. When it first happened on April 6, 1924, Balagtasan became the rage.

Town folks would gather at the plaza and listen to mambalalagtas defend their stand on certain social issues. While it seemed like a verbal display of one’s mastery of the Filipino language, it became a powerful tool to engage the public and create informed conversations on social realities.

But through the years, with the advent of new entertainment platforms, verbal jousts become few and far between in recent times.

With this in mind, the Cultural Center of the Philippines embarks on a new project to make Balagtasan and other types of verbal jousts remain in the consciousness of the Filipino people, especially the young generations.

To commemorate the centennial of Balagtasan, CCP, through its Kanto Kultura program, presents BaRaptasan, a Balagtasan competition with a twist. The competition gives Balagtasan a contemporary feel with the incorporation of rap.

With topics discussing the clash between modernity and tradition, the CCP’s Kanto Kultura BaRaptasan Grand Finals is open to the public. Ten finalists will battle it out in the finale, slated on April 6, 2 PM, at the Rizal Park Open-Air Auditorium.

The group finalists are: Ang Mga Supling ni Angela, Bagong Koronadal Advocates (City of Koronadal), Barapbida Normalista, DMD, El Setecientos, Harayasista Group, Lakbay Iral, Rapper sa Pinas, Tanglaw, and Waraptasan.

Ang Mga Supling ni Angela of Tabaco City, Albay

Paying homage to the first Filipina poet Angela Manalang Gloria, and one of Tabaco City’s proud daughters, Ang Mga Supling ni Angela hopes to present Tabaco City with a bang on the national stage. The group is composed of Kirschen Xyvrl Balajadia, Carlo Campit, and Franco Balingbing.

Bagong Koronadal Advocates (City of  Koronadal) of South Cotabato

Working students and full-time storytellers Angel Faith Leal, Jhon Van Lapu, and Philip Jay Leaño make up the Bagong Koronadal Advocates group. Aside from being familiar with verbal joust competitions, the members share the same love for theater. “Pare-pareho naming mahal ang entablado,” declared the group.

Barapbida Normalista of Tacloban, Leyte

Members Ray Padiwan, Wally Concepcion, and Dave Padel are third-year students taking up Education (majoring in Filipino) at Leyte Normal University. Handpicked by their professor for the competition, the three want to reintroduce their university as an avenue for creatives, not just academics.

 DMD of Makati City

The fourth group, DMD, consists of rappers John Dave P. Rosimo, Marielle Lou C. Bernardo, and Reynaldo S. Bernardo from Makati City. Their group name stood for their initials.

El Setecientos of Santa Rosa, Laguan

El Setecientos, a group from Santa Rosa, Laguna, is composed of Simon, Mhagz, and Arkyak. Besides continuously honing their craft as seasoned rappers, they now want to present their craft to the national stage. Always eager to experience something new, El Setecientos of Laguna signed up for BaRaptasan to contribute to the artistic landscape of the Philippines.

Harayasista Group of  Labo, Camarines Norte

The Harayasista Group may have performers Louie L. Francia, John Earnest M. Evidor, and Amynel L. Garino, but it also has Angel Yasis as its coach. Hailing from Camarines Norte, Yasis looked for performers to create his own group after assisting another competitor.

Lakbay Iral of Dasmarinas City, Cavite

Lakbay Iral members Aaron Vincent G. Jimenez, Louie Ross P. Reyes, and Gabriel Angelo Pedrosa formed the group because of the BaRaptasan competition. True to its translation, Lakbay Iral aims to live life by creating and immersing in the arts.

Rapper sa Pinas of Bocaue, Bulacan

Ernesto Canoy Jr., Oliver Monidero, and Fernando Melencio Jr. met through a Facebook group for rappers. Melencio reached out to the other two and quickly became friends. Eventually, they formed Rapper sa Pinas and applied for the competition. They want to bring to the competition the natural nature of their performance, emphasizing their message and working hard to make sure it will be heard.

Tagapagtaguyod ng Literatura at Wika (TANGLAW) of Ilocos Sur

The Tagapagtaguyod ng Literatura at Wika or TANGLAW is actually an organization from the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, under the Secondary Education Program. Edlyn Baniqued, Deprisse Guco, and Schulamight Manzano chose to honor their school as they represented their institution on the BaRaptasan stage. They are all third-year Filipino Majors who were invited by their professor to join this competition.

Waraptasan of Tacloban City, Leyte

Waraptasan is a wordplay spun by its members to show that they are from Tacloban City. With Waray as their language, members Ma. Regina Babon, James Leala, and Kenneth Cinco believe that “when doing art, you have to bring your own identity.” And that is exactly what they plan to do in BaRaptasan.

Lloyd’s Inn Kuala Lumpur: An Urban Escape in the Heart of KL

Lloyd’s Inn introduces its newest addition to the family with the opening of Lloyd’s Inn Kuala Lumpur this month.  In the first hotel of its kind, the property brings “Garden Oasis” to the skies – each room is designed to bring the outdoors indoors, to experience a slice of “Bali” within an urban city.

Unlike their sister properties in Singapore and Bali which are low-rise, Lloyd’s Inn Kuala Lumpur sits at 15 stories high with 110 rooms. It is the first of the Lloyd’s Inn series to be a high rise city hotel. Rooms range from 17sqm – 50sqm, with a dipping pool (jacuzzi), F&B, co-working space, event & meeting spaces.

Joan Chang, Co-Founder, Lloyd’s Inn

Location

Lloyd’s Inn KL is located in the bustling area of Imbi, with the newly opened Exchange 106 mall (and the second tallest building in Malaysia) at TRX just 200-meteres away from its doorstep. KLCC, Bukit Bintang, Pavilion Mall and the iconic Petronas Twin Towers are less than 2.5 kilometres away. Whether visiting for work or leisure, Lloyd’s Inn KL offers travellers of different types an escape from the city’s hustle and bustle, while still being centrally located near KL’s eateries, shopping, and iconic landmarks.

Architecture and design

At Lloyd’s Inn KL, their signature open concept, greenery, and outdoor showers are translated into a high-rise city version, keeping outdoor elements of what Lloyd’s Inn Singapore & Bali also have – cement walls, floors and raw finishes.

Instead of generic spaces determined by structure, each room seeks to provide its inhabitant with a little patch of earth, suspended in the sky.

Sustainability

As a living and breathing green hotel (literally!), Lloyd’s Inn’s dedication to sustainability reflects their commitment to creating a better world for future generations. Each year, the team continues with updates across properties to adopt more sustainable practices, including replacing single-use shower bottles with pump dispensers and transitioning from plastic to paper amenities. All corridors in Lloyd’s Inn properties are naturally ventilated, saving energy on using around the clock air conditioning.

F&B  Opeum Bistro

A wordplay on ‘opium’, Opeum Bistro is Lloyd’s Inn’s in-house dining F&B brand. The brand meticulously curates a menu in each country featuring the host country’s food, co-designed with a local chef. Opeum Bistro KL heroes Malaysian food and local delights that are sourced with fresh local ingredients.

Helmed by Chef Sharon Gonzago and local Chef Izzat, Opeum Bistro serves contemporary interpretations of international heritage cuisine to satisfy the  modern palate. Diners are in for a deliciously addictive menu inspired by local ingredients and KL’s bustling café-hopping scene.

Artist-in-Residence Programs

From postcards to art displays, Lloyd’s Inn enjoys collaborating with local artists, having done so at all properties. “Sa ating ikalawang termino, nais nating maglaan ng mas malaking effort para ang Sintang Paaralan ay maipakilala at maging top polytechnic university sa Southeast Asia,” Muhi added.

Muhi, who has been serving as PUP’s president since 2020, acknowledged the difficulties faced during his first term, particularly navigating the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. “Hindi ho naging madali ang ating unang termino na magkakasama. Bukod sa kinaharap natin ang COVID-19, ay kinailangan nating dumaan sa accreditation, application ng COPC, licensure examinations, CAEPUP, enrollment at iba pa, pero hindi nyo ho ako binigo,” he stated in his speech.

President Muhi outlined key priorities for his second term, focusing on enhancing academic programs, upgrading facilities, and promoting innovation and inclusivity.

“Magfofocus tayo sa mga student-centered programs – palalakasin natin ang enrollment-to-employment program na sisiguruhin na ang bawat estudyante ay magkakaroon ng industry-ready skills. Palalawakin natin ang access ng ating Education On Wheels program para mas maraming estudyante pa ang makapagtapos ng pag-aaral ng walang pinoproblemang babaunin sa araw-araw,” President Muhi stated.

President Muhi rallied the PUP community to join him in his vision for the university’s future, “Uunahan ko na ho kayo, hindi ho magiging madali ang ating ikalawang termino. Marami ho tayong kailangan gawin at gustong gawin para makapagbigay ng kalidad na edukasyon sa mas marami pang kabataang Pilipino. Sa tulong ng bawat isa, kayang-kaya nating marating ang mas mataas pang antas ng tagumpay. Patuloy nating isulong ang dangal ng Sintang Paaralan. Kasama ko ho ba kayo sa layuning ito?” he added, encouraging the PUP community to stand ready to face the challenges ahead and work towards providing quality education to more Filipino youth.

A simple celebration followed his address bringing together faculty members, administrators, students, and distinguished guests.
