SMHCC’s Park Inn Property in Davao Recognized as the First DOT-Accredited Muslim-Friendly Accommodation Establishment in the Davao Region

SM Hotels & Conventions Corporation (SMHCC) announces Park Inn by Radisson Davao’s recent recognition by the Department of Tourism (DOT) as the first Muslim-Friendly Accommodation Establishment in the Davao Region. This milestone underscores the hotel’s strong commitment to inclusive hospitality and culturally sensitive service.

This distinction is granted to DOT-accredited properties that meet clearly defined standards—ranging from religious considerations to dietary accommodations.

These measures include providing prayer mats, installing Qibla direction markers—which indicate the direction of prayer and ensure Muslims are united in facing the same point during worship, placing Qur’ans in guest rooms, and offering flexible meal options upon request, such as strictly no-pork or other Muslim-friendly alternatives. The hotel also maintains a dedicated non-pork station at its daily breakfast buffet and ensures that team members are trained in culturally respectful service.

Muslim team members within the kitchen and food & beverage service teams further strengthen this commitment. Their presence fosters greater cultural awareness and attentiveness to guest needs, often providing an added level of reassurance to Muslim diners. Guests can also interact with servers in familiar dialects, creating a friendlier, more welcoming environment that enhances the overall comfort of their stay.

The official certificate was awarded by DOT Region XI Regional Director Tanya Rabat-Tan to the hotel, with General Manager Sven Toune, Director of Sales and Marketing Liza Gamo, and Front Office Muslim representative Razul Gregorio receiving it on behalf of the team.

Park Inn by Radisson Davao’s Executive Sous Chef – Chef Vance Bolivar during the Halal Friendly Culinary Olympics last June 20 at the SMX Convention Center Davao.

Further demonstrating its advocacy for inclusive hospitality, Park Inn by Radisson Davao also took part in the Philippine Halal Trade and Tourism Expo 2025, which was held at SMX Davao, another SMHCC-owned property, last June 18-20, 2025 as one of the patron sponsors and exhibitors.

The event concluded with the Halal Friendly Culinary Olympics, where the hotel’s Executive Sous Chef, Chef Vance Bolivar, showcased his creative rendition of Tiyula Itum through the Tiyula Itum Steak Medallion—a modern interpretation of the traditional Tausug dish. Typically served as a soup, Chef Vance reimagined it as a deconstructed plate by searing a tender cut of beef tenderloin and finishing it with a rich, dark sauce made from charred coconut and spices. The dish highlighted authentic flavors while demonstrating refined culinary techniques and elegant presentation.

Tiyula Itum Steak Medallion by Chef Vance Bolivar.

Chef Vance drew inspiration from Chef Aira, a member of his culinary team who is Tausug, infusing the dish with authentic cultural roots. The entry earned 2nd place, underscoring the team’s culinary creativity, cultural respect, and growing expertise in Muslim-friendly food preparation.

The Department of Tourism Region XI commended the hotel for setting a standard in the local hospitality industry and for its pivotal role in making the Davao region a more accessible destination for travelers.

Ultimately, this recognition reaffirms Park Inn by Radisson Davao’s position as one of the trailblazers in inclusive hospitality, inspiring other establishments to follow suit. After all, building a more welcoming and culturally considerate tourism landscape is not just good practice—it is good hospitality.

Reflect and Reconnect with the ‘Of Art and Wine’ Series: ‘The Light That Never Goes Out’ Exhibit at Conrad Manila

The hotel opens its latest art collection that explores spiritual journeys through color, texture and light.

Conrad Manila unveils the 36th edition of its highly acclaimed ‘Of Art and Wine’ Series titled “The Light That Never Goes Out”, featuring the works of abstract expressionist Coeli Manese. Presented in collaboration with Space Alt, the exhibit runs from July 15 to September 13, 2025, and invites guests to pause, reflect, and reconnect through a vibrant display of color, texture, and emotion.

“Coeli’s abstract works align beautifully with Conrad Manila’s design philosophy – bold, intuitive, and layered with meaning. Her ability to translate inner emotion into visual form invites thoughtful connection, something we believe our guests deeply value,” shares Fabio Berto, general manager of Conrad Manila. “Through The Light That Never Goes Out, we continue our mission to showcase contemporary Filipino talent in a setting that inspires both introspection and conversation.”

This solo exhibition unfolds across three themes: Eternal Light, symbolizing an enduring presence beyond what is visible; Inner Illumination, reflecting the quiet force of insight and personal transformation; and Resilient Hope, portraying faith’s quiet triumph over adversity. Coeli Manese’s nuanced use of mixed media and color deepens this narrative, with each hue emotional and symbolic resonance – Payne’s grey for wisdom and growth, turquoise for healing and renewal, and burnt sienna for humility and devotion. Through this palette, her works become more than visual expressions, they are contemplative spaces for grace, reflection, and renewal.

“The artworks in this collection are a deeply personal reflection of my journey through faith, resilience, and creative awakening,” says Coeli Manese. “Each piece is born from moments of quiet introspection, guided by the enduring presence of divine love and light. Through symbolic colors and layered textures, I hope to evoke a sense of peace and spiritual connection. May this collection illuminate your own path and stir within you the same hope and wonder that inspired its creation.”

The ceremonial ribbon cutting which marked the official opening of the exhibit was led by Elizabeth Sy, President of SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation; Peggy Angeles, Executive Vice President of SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation; Brigido Simon Jr., Guest of honor; Lucky Ou, Conrad Manila’s Director of Operations, and featured artist Coeli Manese.

“The Light That Never Goes Out” will take its viewers to a contemplative journey starting July 15 to September 13, 2025, at Gallery C, located on the third level of Conrad Manila. Through a series of mixed media works, Coeli Manese invites viewers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the spiritual currents that guide us.

XI Virtus Awards: Building Continuity, Empowering the Next Generation

Philippine hospitality’s premier awards program returns with renewed focus on mentorship and multi-generational leadership.

The Hotel Sales and Marketing Association (HSMA) Philippines launched the 11th Virtus Awards, a milestone edition that elevates the prestigious program beyond recognizing excellence in hotel sales and marketing to champion the critical mission of empowering the next generation of industry leaders.

With the theme “Paths & Bridges: Leading the Way and Building Continuity,” this year’s Virtus Awards serve as both tribute and challenge: honoring the trailblazers who have defined Philippine hospitality while challenging today’s leaders to build new bridges of knowledge, mentorship, and innovation toward a future shaped by younger professionals.

“It’s a vision that aligns with HSMA’s core educational pillar and the industry’s broader goals of travel recovery, tourism growth, wellness, and sustainable leadership development,” said Loleth So, HSMA president.

The official launch coincided with HSMA’s General Membership Meeting at Fairmont Makati, featuring keynote speaker Therese “Gang” Badoy Capati, president of Rock Ed Philippines and trauma therapist. Her presentation, “Rock the Talk,” addressed the vital need for effective communication across multi-generational teams in today’s rapidly evolving hospitality landscape.

HSMA Board of Directors at the Virtus Awards Launch July 15.

“Gang Capati shared compelling insights on bridging the generational divide within our teams,” says Rose Libongco, Virtus Awards chair. “This responds directly to the industry’s call for more coherent and collaborative teamwork. We encourage leaders to bring their teams, the new generation must understand the journey that brought us here, just as we must understand the paths they are forging.”

The Virtus X-factor: Going beyond performance

As in previous years, the 11th Virtus Awards continues to seek individuals and teams who go beyond delivering results in order to influence genuine change. The coveted X-factor encompasses not only exceptional performance but also the courage to innovate, the ability to mentor, and the vision to lead with empathy and foresight. “Whether reviving destinations, building new markets, or creating campaigns that restore traveler confidence, Virtus XI honors those who redefine industry standards and elevate the bar for excellence,” adds Ms. Margarita Munsayac, HSMA chair.

This year’s edition introduces enhanced judging criteria that reflect post-pandemic travel realities, an expanded network of industry partners, and a platform for sharing stories of resilience and innovation. These updates position Virtus XI as potentially the most meaningful and impactful edition in the program’s history. There will still be three solo awards:  Outstanding Sales and Marketing Associate, Outstanding Sales and Marketing Manager, and Outstanding Sales and Marketing Leader.  The sole group category is the Institutional Award for Most Outstanding Marketing Campaign of the Year.

Properties and hotel groups that have taken home multiple Virtus Awards include The Bellevue Hotels and Resorts, Chroma Hospitality Group, Crimson Hotel Filinvest City, Megaworld Hotels & Resorts, and Conrad Manila.

Last year, the Virtus Award for Outstanding Sales and Marketing Associate was given to Belmont Hotel Manila eCommerce executive Mika Paula Bustillo and The Ascott Limited assistant manager for Content & Graphics Christian Paulo Morales. Midas Hotel and Casino senior sales manager for Rooms Ma. Fe Pulga received the Virtus Award for Outstanding Sales and Marketing Manager, and the honor of Outstanding Sales and Marketing Leader was bestowed upon Erwin Fidel Doña III, Director of Marketing and Communications at Novotel and Ibis Styles Manila Araneta City.

Megaworld Hotels & Resorts won the Institutional Award for Most Outstanding Marketing Campaign of the Year, for its “The Sampaguita” campaign.

Cultivating tomorrow’s leaders today

Beyond its role as an awards platform, Virtus has evolved into a movement for excellence and mentorship. Through strategic educational initiatives, including this year’s keynote and ongoing thought leadership programs, HSMA encourages member properties to develop the next generation of marketers who are digitally savvy, emotionally intelligent, and culturally sensitive.

“We are intentional about building continuity,” emphasizes Ms Libongco, HSMA Virtus Awards Chair. “This year’s program isn’t just about celebrating today’s stars, it’s about illuminating the path for tomorrow’s leaders and ensuring our industry’s knowledge and values transfer seamlessly across generations.”

HSMA Expands its ranks with new members

The HSMA also proudly welcomed its newly inducted members this year, further strengthening its network of tourism and hospitality professionals across the country. They are the following: (1) Tag Hotels & Resorts  – represented by Mayette Sagales-Delfin, Director of Sales and Marketing; (2) Via Appia Tagaytay  – represented by Dr. Richard dela Rosa, Chairman; (3) Sol Y Viento – represented by Shanen Sultaire Nogus, Director of Sales and Marketing;  (4) Rancho Bernardo Luxury Villas – represented by Corinna Reyes, Director of Sales and Marketing; (5) Alpha Suites – represented by Elgie Bryan R. Goyonan, Director of Sales;  (6) H Resort – The Coral Clidd – represented by Anna Maria Dolor-Fernandez , General Manager; and (7) Vivere Hotel – represented by Agot Serrano, General Manager.

HSMA new members.

The growing roster reflects HSMA’s continuing commitment to uplift industry standards, promote collaboration, and foster innovation among hospitality leaders. Their induction marks a renewed energy within the organization as it builds stronger “paths and bridges” for the next generation of tourism professionals.

The XI Virtus Awards is presented by Hotel Sales and Marketing Association (HSMA), the Department of Tourism, and Tourism Promotions Board (Philippines), with the support of Raffles Makati and Fairmont Makati.  For more information and partnership inquiries, visit hsma.org.ph or Like and Follow @HSMAPH on Facebook and Instagram.

Moda Interni and Pedini Debut the Most Curved, Luxurious Kitchen in the PH

A  new wave in kitchen innovation has arrived in the Philippines. Moda Interni, in partnership with Italian luxury kitchen brand Pedini, has unveiled the most curved kitchen ever introduced to the local market, redefining how form, function, and flow come together at the heart of Filipino homes.

The new kitchen from Pedini’s Arkè collection made its official debut at Moda Interni’s Quezon City showroom, led by Goldwin Sison, CEO of Moda Interni, and Francesco Giuffrida, Brand Export Manager of Pedini. Featuring a sculptural C-shaped island and body, curved lacquered cabinetry, and slatted wood detailing, the design is a masterclass in both engineering and aesthetics. This game-changing kitchen challenges the traditional straight-line layout and ushers in a new era of elevated, experience-driven cooking spaces. It’s an ambitious showcase that reflects Moda Interni’s big bet on the growing interest for functional luxury in Filipino homes.

“Curved kitchens represent a refined evolution in kitchen design, one that balances visual harmony with daily performance,” shares Goldwin Sison. “With Pedini’s curved kitchens, we’re not just offering a luxury product. We’re introducing a new standard for how the modern Filipino kitchen can feel and function,” he added.

As the Philippine luxury market becomes increasingly design-savvy, curved kitchens are fast becoming the next frontier. Yet only a select few brands globally can offer this level of craftsmanship. Pedini, a leader in modular and luxury kitchens since 1957, was one of the first to pioneer the curved kitchen concept—starting with its iconic Francesca model. Pedini has been present in the Philippine market for two years and continues to grow among discerning homeowners, interior designers, and architects who value world-class design with local accessibility.

Moda Interni Kitchen

Shaped for Your Needs

Pushing the bounds of innovative yet timeless design, the curved kitchen responds directly to the modern Filipino lifestyle. Its design encourages natural movement, interaction, and everyday multitasking.  Every curve can be strategized to your needs. Not just for cooking, but for creating a space that brings people together and enhances everyday living.

Unlike standard linear layouts, curved kitchens surround you, creating a more ergonomic and intuitive space. While the overall shape stays consistent, key elements like stoves, sinks, and accessories can be arranged to suit your flow and style. Beyond function, curved kitchens offer striking aesthetics, transforming the kitchen into a true hub for entertaining and connection. For Filipinos who love cooking, gathering, and celebrating, it’s more than a kitchen; it’s a lifestyle investment.

“This collection is the result of decades of innovation and Italian design heritage,” said Francesco Giuffrida. “At Pedini, it’s about shaping spaces that reflect the way people live today, with elegance, efficiency, and emotion.”

Perfect for the Evolving Filipino Home

As Filipino homes continue to evolve, becoming more open, expressive, and lifestyle-oriented, the kitchen is no longer just a utilitarian space. It has become the heart of the home, where families gather, stories are shared over meals, and traditions are passed down. It is a space to reconnect with loved ones, express one’s creativity, and celebrate your identity.

Moda Interni and Pedini’s launch of the curved kitchen marks a bold response to this shift. A reimagination of what the modern kitchen can be: sculptural yet practical, timeless and refined.

“Over the past few months, we’ve heard from fellow architects and designers that more clients are asking about curved kitchens. It’s exciting to see this interest growing. It signals the beginning of a new design movement here in the Philippines,” shares Sison. “And at Moda Interni, we’re proud to lead this conversation with Pedini, one of the world’s best when it comes to curved kitchen design and now the leading brand for it in the country.”

As this wave of innovation gains momentum, one thing is clear: the future of kitchen design in the Philippines is curved.

At Migiwa and Totsuji, traditional sushi and teppanyaki are reimagined with refined creativity, honoring heritage while embracing innovation. DRIFTWOOD elevates Yoshoku cuisine with seasonal ingredients and inventive cocktails, all framed by sweeping views of Tokyo Tower. For a more casual yet spirited experience, Yoi to Yoi serves up elevated Japanese street food with highballs, while OFF RECORD offers an intimate escape into Tokyo’s secret listening bar scene—where vinyl, rare spirits, and soulful bites create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere. Each venue invites guests on a journey of flavor, expertise, and modern elegance.

Omer Acar, Chief Executive Officer, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts said, “The opening of Fairmont Tokyo marks a major milestone as we proudly bring the Fairmont brand to Japan for the first time, entering one of the most refined and inspiring hospitality landscapes in the world. Rooted in the duality of Tokyo’s tradition and modernity, the hotel is more than a destination for global travelers. It is a gathering place for the local community. Fairmont Tokyo blends thoughtful innovation with the spirit of omotenashi – the deeply rooted Japanese approach to hospitality that emphasizes mindfulness, sincerity, and anticipation of guests’ needs. Whether it’s afternoon tea overlooking Tokyo Bay, an intimate moment at the Chef’s Sushi bar, or a rare spirit discovery at the hotel’s speakeasy, each experience is designed to make special happen.”

Urban vibrancy

Thoughtfully designed by internationally acclaimed BAR Studio, the hotel’s interiors serve as a captivating canvas where artistry intertwines with urban vibrancy, featuring a harmonious fusion of color, texture, and light that transforms each space into a living masterpiece, while captivating curated artworks—including those inspired by traditional Japanese techniques like Kintsugi and weaving—pay homage to Japan’s rich artistic heritage.

Fairmont Tokyo offers 217 rooms, including 29 suites, ranging from 52 – 278 square meters, situated from the 36th to 42nd floors, each with breathtaking, unobstructed views through expansive floor-to-ceiling windows. Seating areas, inspired by the traditional Japanese ’Engawa’, create a transitory space between the interior and exterior. The top three signature suites stand out with bespoke furnishings, curated artworks, and amenities.
