Banwa Private Island is delighted to announce the appointment of Rob Chappelhow and Ken Beattie as its first-ever Brand Ambassadors.
Ken and Rob are excited to share their in-depth understanding of the extraordinary beauty and fragile biodiversity of Banwa Private Island with potential guests and industry professionals alike. Both are uniquely placed to share personal stories and knowledge, having been right there at the beginning of the deserted tropical island’s transformation into the verdant garden paradise it is today.
London-based, Rob Chappelhow first visited the island in 2009 when it was a seldom seen coconut plantation frequented only by Hawksbill Turtles returning to the pristine white sands to lay their eggs. In 2013, Rob became Project Director, overseeing the island’s sustainable development. He says: “By 2019, we were ready to welcome guests to experience Banwa Private Island’s’ concept of informal luxury in a contemporary setting. I am thrilled to bring my experience of its evolution to the Brand Ambassador role. Having watched the native beach forest grow to provide such privacy and tranquility, and witnessed the rejuvenation of the coral reef and the island’s wildlife, it’s an honour to once more be part of the passionate team.”
Ken Beattie, currently based in Taiwan, was also involved in Banwa Private Island’s inception and over recent years has been integral in establishing Aquos Foundation’s CSR programs, reaching out to the local communities to foster positive and sustainable relationships. ‘’There are so many compelling reasons to visit Banwa Private Island including the exceptional personalized service and the numerous land and water-based leisure activities. Having dived every reef in the surrounding Marine Protected Area, I have an intimate understanding of the region’s incredible marine life and the unique experiences available to our guests,” says Ken of his appointment.

Globe’s Hapag Movement has raised over P13.5 million worth of donations to combat involuntary hunger in the country since its launch in 2022, as the digital solutions platform urged customers anew to support the advocacy as millions of Filipino families still struggle to afford proper meals.
Contributions to the cause accelerated during Globe’s on-ground events including the annual 917 GDay celebration in September 2022, with customers’ donations of their Rewards points, which the company matched to send urgent help to those in need. These were complemented by company-initiated donations, corporate partner donations, and by engaging their customer base through various activities.
“As millions of Filipinos still grapple with hunger, Globe believes that addressing this concern is necessary for the country to achieve full and inclusive recovery from the impact of the pandemic. We are very thankful to our customers for participating and being part of the movement,” said Globe Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer, Yoly Crisanto.
During their annual 917 celebration in September, Globe matched all Rewards points redeemed from September 17 to 30 with an equivalent donation to the Hapag Movement. They also engaged their customers in several events throughout last year including the Tay New Fan Meet in Manila, Reach 4 The Stars Fan Meet with Thai actors and Globe endorsers Bright, Win, Dew, and Nani, G Battle Zone, G Music Fest, AcadArena’s CONQuest, Gariath Concepts’ Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit (ESGS), Head in the Clouds Manila, and many others.
The total amount of donations also comprises internal employee engagements from Globe including:
Purpose Tree – Globe’s annual Christmas fundraising effort
Gift Local– the company’s annual Christmas bazaar, done in partnership with ChatGenie, an e-commerce solution supported by Globe Business, and in collaboration with some of their key clients, including Lumi Candles, Big AL’s, Daniel Baker, and many others
Volunteer activities
Globe also has a growing list of partners to raise funds for the Hapag Movement including:
Amdocs, Globe’s long-time vendor partner who’s pledged to monetarily contribute US $12,000 to the cause and mobilize their employees to join the movement by initiating an internal fundraising program;
KUMU, the largest social entertainment app in the Philippines, also engaged their content creators and viewers to donate to the cause. They raised a total of 1.9M+ diamonds on the platform during the Hapag Movement Benefit Concert held last December 21, 2022, which drew 10,599 viewers.
SMAC (SM Advantage Card), who, together with its sister brands within the SM Group, helped raise funds through customer engagements last Christmas season.
The Rotary Club of Makati Central Business District, Ayala Coop, and KonsultaMD’s network of doctors who committed a significant amount to support the advocacy.
Collectively, all their efforts will contribute to reaching the program’s long-term goal of supporting 100,000 families in four years through supplemental feeding and livelihood programs of mobilization partners Ayala Foundation, Caritas Philippines, Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines, and World Vision Philippines.
According to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, taken from December 10 to 14, 2022, 3 million families reported experiencing involuntary hunger, an increase from 2.9 million in the previous quarter.
The Hapag Movement is a united fight against involuntary hunger through technology led by Globe and carried out with its partners, the Ayala Foundation, Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines, Caritas Philippines and World Vision.
It aims to rally Filipinos behind a collective effort to feed the hungry, as involuntary hunger persisted among millions of families, especially at the height of the pandemic.
This is part of Globe’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 9, which highlights the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development.

Leading digital solutions platform Globe signed a four-year partnership with the Rotary Club of Makati Business District (RCMBD) on Tuesday to raise funds for its hunger alleviation program The Hapag Movement, marking a milestone in the initiative.
In ceremonies at The Globe Tower in BGC, Taguig City, Globe Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer Yoly Crisanto, Rotary Club of Makati Business District (RCMBD) Charter President Mache Torres Ackerman, and Rachel Harisson, Spokesperson and Hapag Movement Project Manager for RCMBD sealed the partnership, along with Kate Bellosillo, General Manager of Kyäni Philippines, a health and wellness company, and renowned chef Jessie Sincioco, President and CEO of The Manna Cuisine Corporation.
RCMBD committed to raising a total of P10 million in funds for the Hapag Movement through various initiatives involving the different Rotary Clubs and its District, individual, and corporate members nationwide. With its commitment, the club is now one of Hapag Movement’s longest-term fundraising partners.
At the event P3 million was turned over to the Hapag Movement– the single largest donation it has so far received. This amount includes P1 million each from RCMBD, Kyäni, and Ackerman, who donated in her personal capacity.
“It has been three years since the pandemic struck and disrupted our way of life, including our livelihoods. Millions of Filipinos experience involuntary hunger until today, as they reel from the impact of the health crisis and recent economic shocks. Our partnership with Rotary comes at a crucial time as we hope to support more Filipinos in dire need. Together, we’ll be able to deliver life-enabling help to our kababayans,” said Crisanto.
“The Hapag Movement, led by Globe, is a noble initiative that aims to address a lingering and fundamental problem afflicting thousands of Filipino families. Its goals are aligned with the Rotary’s mission to advance better health and help alleviate poverty, and so it was such a natural choice for us and our district membership to support,” said Ackerman.
Under the partnership, the Rotary chapter will be tapping its corporate and individual members, alongside their vast network as drivers of the program.
“RCMBD will continue to mobilize its expansive network to raise funds for the Hapag Movement. That is our commitment to this partnership. We will do our best and work diligently to get the support that the Hapag Movement needs to help the hungry,” said Harisson.
The Rotary Club of Makati Business District chapter is also tapping Rotary members in Cebu and Davao to help drive fundraising efforts in the Visayas and Mindanao, through Eric Le Cain, past RCMBD president who is now based in Cebu, and Ralph Ogui Bon Cambronero from Rotary Club, Davao. Together, they will push the Hapag Movement in the South.
“We will activate our members to find creative ways to raise funds for the hungry. That is our commitment to the Hapag Movement,” said Harrison.
The Hapag Movement is a united fight against involuntary hunger led by Globe that leverages partnerships to raise funds and deliver critical support for affected families. It aims to rally Filipinos behind a collective effort to feed the hungry and provide empowering livelihood training, as an estimated 15 million Filipinos continue to suffer from involuntary hunger.
The initiative, which aims to benefit 100,000 families through its four-year course, is in line with Globe’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 9, which highlights the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development.
So far, the movement has raised P13.5 million in donations through the help of partners Kumu, AMDOCS, and the, SM Advantage Card (SMAC). It has made an impact on at least 10,000 families through its mobilization partners the Ayala Foundation, Caritas Philippines, Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines, and Wor,ld Vision.

The project is truly living up to PUP’s reputation of giving people a chance at a quality education regardless of their stature.
The Polytechnic University of the Philippines’ (PUP) Education on Wheels is a project that caters to the educational needs of out-of-school youth in various places. This project aims to give everyone more learning opportunities and ensure that more people get access to education, regardless of their background.
“The EOW has been part of the vision of our Sintang Paaralan, to make education accessible and of quality. It is ongoing and has benefited the youth in Smokey Mountain,” PUP President Manuel Muhi proudly shares.
The Education on Wheels also seeks to expand nationwide, seeking out underprivileged youths – truly living up to PUP’s reputation of giving people a chance at a quality education regardless of their stature.
“The goal is straightforward: to bring education to those who cannot afford it, right at their doorstep. This would not have been possible without the generous contributions of our donors, all of whom shared the same vision of educating the next generation,” Muhi explains.
The Education on Wheels has 65 students with a Bachelor of Science in Office Administration. Their courses are TESDA inclined, which guarantees them a job after two years of education.
Apart from providing an exclusive beach respite for Manila’s affluent, Landco’s development in Punta Fuego in Nasugbu, Batangas has also been anchored on serving its residents’ sailing and yachting lifestyle.
Bouncing back after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the highly-anticipated 19th Club Punta Fuego (CPF) Regatta was recently held as one of the major sailing events in the Philippines. The CPF Regatta brought together the sailing enthusiasts and sailor members of Punta Fuego Yacht Club (PFYC) and select members of the Philippine Inter-Island Sailing Foundation (PHINSAF) from all over the country.
Participants joined the exuberant yet highly competitive yacht race and winners were recognized in three categories: IRC Racing Class, Cruising Class, and Ocean Multihull.
Wild Honey – 1st place Cruising Class
Sy Selma Star with captain Jun Avecilla was hailed as the champion of this year’s Racer Cruiser Class, followed by Belatrix with captains Jun Villanueva and Sean Mitchell, Hurricane Hunter of Albert Aluta, and Karakoa of Ray Ordovesa in the same IRC Racing Class.
For the Cruising Class, Wild Honey of captain James Villareal got the top mark, in second and third place were Plus Ultra of Pablo Lobregat and Isabelle of Tere Marcial, respectively. Twin Popsies of captains Dylan Tantuico and Gordon Luk aced the Ocean Multihull, trailed by second placer MYGP of Vincent Ruais.
Club Punta Fuego, managed by Anya Hospitality Group (AHG), is the luxurious private Batangas beach resort, the gemstone of the 88-hectare seaside residential community of Peninsula de Punta Fuego. This sprawling luxury property is developed by Landco, known for pioneering premium landscapes for more than 30 years.
Landco, known for pioneering landscapes for more than 30 years and its strong thrust on sustainability, allotted a portion of the BeachTowns CaSoBe (Calatagan South Beach) in Batangas to provide a safe, convenient, and round the clock access road for fisherfolks to easily reach the Calatagan seas from the public road and vice versa.
“Landco works closely with the community, the local government of Calatagan, Batangas, and our landowners for inclusive socio-economic development of different sectors in the vicinity of our BeachTowns developments, particularly the fisherfolks. Ensuring their source of livelihood and stimulating the growth of their microenterprise are our prime concerns. Our team undertakes measures for community involvement because it’s the right thing to do and sustainability is deeply rooted in Landco’s DNA,” said Erickson Y. Manzano, President and CEO, Landco Pacific Corporation.
Complementing this support for fisherfolks, Landco provides jobs to the local community: 69 out of the 104 or 66% of Millennial Resorts staff are residents of Calatagan.
The access road for fisherfolks along with various community and environmental initiatives is part of Landco’s long-term sustainability program which is aligned with Metro Pacific Investment Corporation’s commitment to help achieve the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable; and strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
