J. Amado Araneta Foundation (JAAF), in partnership with Red Cross Quezon City Chapter, conducted Operation R.E.A.C.H. relief drive to extend support to the families affected by the 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Abra last July 27.

R.E.A.C.H stands for Relief Efforts of Araneta City-zens to Help, the Operation R.E.A.C.H. collected pledges from Araneta City’s customers through a donation box located at the concierge desks of Ali Mall, Farmers Plaza, Gateway Mall, and Gateway Tower.

The relief goods were handed by representatives from JAAF, Helen Valenzuela, and Glenda Carlota, and were turned over to Red Cross Quezon City Chapter representatives Nick Barry Guttierez, and Michelle Marcelo in a ceremony held at Gateway Tower. Bottled waters, canned goods, rice, mats and blankets, face masks, alcohol, and hygiene kits will be distributed to the families settling in evacuation centers.

With the landslides, collapsed houses and infrastructures brought by the strong earthquake, and the risk of experiencing aftershocks, the locals of Abra and nearby provinces in northwestern Luzon were evacuated. The province is slowly recovering from the disaster with support coming from various government agencies, LGUs, local and international organizations, the private sector, and foundations such as JAAF.

As part of its vision of providing gateways to opportunities, JAAF continues to provide immediate relief assistance to meet the basic needs of disaster and calamities-affected communities. JAAF believes that giving value and extending a hand to communities, especially in times of calamities, are ways in creating a caring community.
